About the Owners: We fell in love with Burgundy during our travels through France in the 1990's. We have an appreciation for the rich Celtic, Roman, and medieval history of the area. The wonderful bistros, restaurants, markets, and vineyards fulfill our love of gourmet food and wine. Coming from farm families, we also love the beauty of the Morvan Forest, the green pastures, and white Charolais cattle. Burgundy is the ultimate vacation area and getaway from the rat race.
Choice of Location: Like the Three Bears of the fairy tale, we found the Dordogne too hot, Provence too crowded, and Burgundy just right. La Grande Verriere, a charming, historical village offers the quiet of the country and proximity to Dijon, Beaune, and Autun, a non-touristic, authentically French city. Our charming cottage is close to the Mairie, the Tabac, and the Boulangerie, and to the picturesque church with bell tower. Its backyard looks up at the mountains of the Morvan Forest perfect for evenings of Kir, appetizers and friends.
Unique Features: Easily accessible from A6, N7, and N81, the property is perfectly situated for day trips of less than an hour to sites of interest. We love to drive to the vineyards near Beaune for tasting tours. The Morvan provides beautiful natural scenery and a wonderful museum of Celtic history. Roman ruins and a world-renowned medieval cathedral are located in Autun, a fifteen minute drive. Many chateaus are nearby, including Sully, Chateauneuf, and Rochepot. Every day of the week, a nearby town hosts an outdoor market. Shops abound in the area, as well as festivals and 'vide grenier' (attic) sales.
