Arkady is set in a hillside olive grove, with panoramic views, just outside the pretty village of Gialova. Even in the high season the long beach is uncrowded and you can eat with the locals nearby or join visitors in the Gialova restaurants further along the beach. The apartment has everything you expect in high quality, self contained holiday accommodation.

Outside your door each morning we provide fresh home baked bread, plus milk whenever you wish.

You don't need a car for your stay. If you want to see the sights further way it is easy to hire a car locally for a few days. A short bicycle ride ( we provide 4 bicycles ) takes you to the shops in Gialova 2km away. There is a smaller shop and a taverana at the beach nearby.

At our local beach, a 10 minute walk, is our local Greek Taverna serving inexpensive traditional dishes and homemade wine. In Gialova village is a diverse selection of restaurants and even two small bars. Even the locals from Pylos eat here.

Golden Beach with its 3km of safe and sandy beach starts at Gialova. Voidikilia beach just 4km away was voted one of the top ten beaches in the world by the New York Times in 2010 yet it remains uncrowded, undeveloped and quiet. Take a picnic and enjoy a wonderful adventure there with Palio Kastro ( the old castle) on the cliff above, waiting to be explored. Just below it is the dark cave where ancient King Nestor kept his livestock.

When the wind is right its possible to windsurf across the bay. Or you can rent a small boat for the day and explore the islands and go snorkelling.

The area around has many attractions including Nestor's Palace, Ancient Olympia,The Temple of Apollo Epicureus at Bassae (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Ancient Messini and Methoni Castle, once known as 'The Eyes Of Venice' for it's strategic importance. The biggest fortress on the Mediterranean, it is a must for a day trip. (20 mins drive.) Stay for dinner or a drink after - it looks truly magnificent lit up at night.

The city of Pylos is 5km from Arkady apartment (10 mins by car ) and is one of the most beautiful old towns in the Peloponnese. We are sheltered from the open sea by the island of Sphacteria, where the Athenians finally defeated the Spartans in 425bc. ( The Spartans camped on our local beach ! )

We are far enough from Athens to be still off the beaten track. People that come here enjoy a peaceful, unspoilt, relaxed atmosphere and the friendly rural community maintains its identity and customs.

It's a 10 min walk to the warm, crystal-clear waters of The Ionian Sea and to our local taverna, Niko's. Home-cooked traditional food, BIG Greek salads and his own wine served by the jug, make it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. All are made welcome.

Gialova remains relatively not touristic considering its incredible natural beauty, historical and mythical significance and proximity to astounding archaeological sites. Here you cannot escape the voice of Homer drawing you back to ancient times - looking out to sea from Nestor's Palace and imagining the wise King of this region returning from Troy, brimming with ideas of peace and agricultural plenty for all; his legacy is still apparent today; 90% of all organic farming takes place in the Peloponnese. Nestor's city is rumored to lie under the sands of Voidokilia beach, perhaps the most beautiful beach in Europe. With the lagoon behind and Golden Beach beyond it forms a huge conservation area.

Both bathrooms are roomy, one has an extra large shower area so that a parent can easily shower multiple children with ease! We have an extra bedroom on the ground floor with en-suite bathroom.

Both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. They both have wonderful uninterrupted views of Navarino Bay and the island of Sphakteria. The whitewashed church of the tiny village of Pyla on the hill 3km away can be seen from the side window of the master bedroom and you can faintly hear the strains of the Greek Orthodox sung service wafting down the valley on Sunday mornings. Decorated in the same tranquil greens as the olive grove, the master bedroom has a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside drawers. The second bedroom, in the same colors, has a large chest of drawers and bookshelves, well-stocked with interesting books and local information. There's a child's bed as well as a double, which can be converted into a cot if necessary. We have an extra double bedroom available on the ground floor with en-suite bathroom for larger family groups.

Notes: There's a private patio in the olive grove which can be reached via a short path from the apartment. It's equipped as a dining area but can also be used as a yoga space or tranquil garden hideaway. It has lovely views of the olive and citrus groves, all the way down to the sea, is shaded by a vine-covered pergola and planted round with a variety of Mediterranean trees, shrubs and flowers. There is also an option of a separate third bedroom with en suite bathroom for larger families. Just let us know what you would like.
