The Fattoria di Montecchio lies approx. 1km outside the village in the heart of the historical and oldest area of the Florentine “Chianti Classico”. From the hills of the villa one has a view to the medieval village of San Donato in Poggio. The old and beautiful villa, which comprises the centre point of the vineyard estate belonged once to the Marquis Torrigiani. The square construction of the building complex displays the typical contrast of stonework and plasterwork on its façade. On the front façade there is an impressive portico, above which the coat of arms of the Torriginai family can be seen.

The wine which grows here on the sun-drenched hillsides bears the name of the estate. It is an excellent Chianti Classico which you can of course try and buy direct from the wine cellars. Several restaurants can be found in the immediate neighbourhood.

San Donato in Poggio is a characteristic medieval place and is in the most beautiful and ursprünglichsten part of the Toskana, in the middle in the heart Chianti of the Classico. Today only one part of the walls is received, the two entrance gates (Porta Fiorentina and Porta Senese) and a few towers, under it the bell tower. This very day the place retains its original structure surrounded with the characteristic small streets, of vineyards and Olivenhainen. After Florenz or Siena only per approx. 30 km.
