Photos and Description of this Sarlat la Caneda holiday barn

Sarlat, Dordogne, four character cottages, original features and stunning views.

La Ferme de La Tour is an ensemble of beautiful old farm buildings dating back to the 16th century. Overlooking 2 1/2 acres of parkland, are four impeccably presented cottages / barn conversions, and a large chlorine free heated swimming pool. High on a hill, at the top of a valley, we are surrounded by magnificent countryside, a network of pretty footpaths and a neighbouring historical château. The breathtaking valley views, gardens and huge skies will overwhelm you with a feeling of peace and tranquillity disturbed only by the abundance of wildlife and the occasional distant tractor. The pool, which is bathed in sunshine from dawn to dusk, is perfectly sited to maximise the views enabling you to watch the ever changing colours of the Dordogne valley. Each gite has excellent WIFI reception. To visit our personal website scroll down and click on the link at the bottom of the facilities page.

WIFI is available throughout, with boosters in each gite, ensuring a good reception no matter where you are..........

On site activities include table tennis, boules, badminton, football net and swings..

We welcome families and couples alike, however our premises are not suitable for children under five years of age.

Friendly but unobtrusive owners live on site...

About Chris and Kate Waters

We are an average family of four that originate from the village of Wroxham in Norfolk in the east of England.

Why did we move to France ? Why not...... We are, or should I say were, the same as most working families in the western world, devoted parents, but having to give ourselves and far too much time to careers which involve long hours and stress. So we looked for an alternative and France seemed like the right choice. The choice provided us with more stress and longer hours than you can imagine and for the first three or four years it was extremely hard work, both physically and mentally. However we are now reaping the benefits and enjoying our new life to the full, in one of the most beautiful areas we could have dreamed of living.

Chris and Kate Waters purchased this barn in 2004

Why Chris and Kate Waters chose Sarlat la Caneda

We moved lock stock and barrel to the Sarlat area in 2004, buying a set of empty farm buildings that needed far too much work. But the position and the views had us hooked and nothing came anywhere near a close second. So here we are nine years on and the renovation complete, but not without some real highs and lows and a vast collection of stories and experiences.

What makes this barn unique

The position is magical and just not possible to capture in a picture.

We have been extremely lucky to find a property with such a formula of character, views and location. We are close to Sarlat, which is the jewel of the Dordogne, yet in a truly rural setting in stunning countryside.

Delightful Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautifully put together conversion of farm buildings. Each unit was immaculate and very well equipped as well as extremely comfortable. When we arrived the property was spotless. Chris and Kate were helpful and there when we needed them and in no way imposed themselves upon us as guests.

The surrounding countryside is beautiful and a car is needed to explore. There are some very pleasant walks around the property and adjacent woods and fields that were detailed in a very comprehensive manual in the property. This also contained many recommendations for trips and days out.

We only scratched the surface in our exploration of the region and wished we had more time. Should we come back to this region we would certainly return here and recommend it without reservation.

La Grange - a beautiful gite with character

  • 5 of 5

Recently returned from a great week in La Grange. The accommodation was very clean, full of character and well equipped for a family of four. Chris is a great host and is always on hand to offer any advice or provide assistance if required. His book of recommendations offers plenty of suggestions of places to visit or eat.

La Grange faces south and overlooks a clean, heated and well maintained swimming pool where fantastic views of the valley can be seen for miles. A large lawn area is also available where plenty of kids activities can be enjoyed from trampolining, to badminton, football and table tennis. A seated terrace area is available to the front overlooking the valley with a barbeque which we did take advantage of.

Sarlat is a beautiful historic town and La Grange is an ideal base for visiting Sarlat along with other Chateau’s and caves in the area. We particularly enjoyed an early morning coffee at the Salamander in Sarlat along with a pastry from the patisserie across the road (another one of Chris’s recommendations). A visit to the Lascaux II caves and the Pilotes restaurant in Montignac is well recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay at La Grange and intend returning there in the not too distant future.

Wonderful gite, gorgeous views, friendly owners

  • 5 of 5

On arrival after a very long journey, Chris showed us into our gite, La Grange. He sensed we were exhausted and was kind to suggest that he would pop back when we had fully unpacked and settled in, which we really appreciated. The gite is beautifully presented, very clean with everything you need for a great holiday. Great Wifi. The lounge on the lower level with comfy sofas and t.v. lead up a few steps to another level, the kitchen. It is well equipped and clean. Off the kitchen, up the stairs you find the bedrooms, with an interconnecting bathroom. The upstairs is compact but functional and clean. Outside we had a patio area with bbq, next to La Petite Grange. There are some amazing views at the property, as it is situated high up. The pool is a perfect temperature and Chris kept it very clean. Our teenage daughters loved the grounds with trampoline, table tennis and plenty of grass to play games. Chris and Kate are on hand if you need them but leave you to relax and enjoy your holiday. Lovely hosts. The area around the gite is stunning and you are close to Sarlat, approx. 15 minute drive. We used the supermarket at Salignac - seems small and cluttered, but actually the food is good and excellent value. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at La Ferme de le Tour, especially our 2nd week where we met two other families who were great. The children all got on, playing cards and races in the pool. Adults chatted or read their books - perfect!

Thank you Chris and Kate for letting us stay at your lovely property.

Beautiful,clean with bags of character

  • 5 of 5

We found the property without a problem from the instructions given and it was perfectly located being in the countryside but not far from the lovely town of Sarlat. The property is beautifully maintained and it was great to have our own terrace too. The kids loved the shared pool and gardens with table tennis, trampoline, football to name just a few activities. (British digital TV was welcome too) Chris and Kate were welcoming and thoughtful hosts and nothing was too much trouble. There was so much to do locally and we only managed a castle, cave, canoeing, local market, local walk and walnut mill. We definitely need a return visit to squeeze some more in. We have recommended this spot to family and friends already. A fabulous holiday in so many ways. Thank you Chris and Kate!!

Excelente estadia en La Grange

  • 5 of 5
