A taste of French paradise for a few months!
In November 2011 Tony and I rented the ground floor of this house for winter and spring, to experience "La Vie en France" before moving here permanently. We have the happiest memories of our time here - too many to mention - and felt so lucky to have discovered it.
The house has great charm and nestles peacefully and privately in a huge garden full of interesting plants and fruit trees. It is comfortable and well equipped. In winter it feels cosy with good central heating and an open log fire for the evening. In Spring the bulbs come into flower and the birdlife and birdsong is gorgeous; redstarts, hoopoes, jays, golden orioles, tree creepers, woodpeckers, swifts and swallows to name but a few. The cherry blossom immediately outside our windows was breathtakingly beautiful and in May, when the cherries ripen and it is warmer, we spent evenings sitting outside watching clouds of swifts whizz to and fro catching insects.
Hugely convenient, only a 5-minute walk away, is the centre of the historic and picturesque village of Vers. Although quite small, it has excellent "commerce" - a bakery, pharmacy, "tabac", post office, minimart, cafés, restaurants, etc. and a twice-weekly market in the typically beautiful old square where the locals play petanque or boules under the plane trees almost all year round.
Equally convenient, within a short drive, are many places of interest and beauty which give this region of France such fame - again too many to list. And of course, the food and wines are excellent.
We have become good friends of Isa, the owner who now lives in the Cevennes. She couldn't have been kinder or more helpful. She also rents the upper floor of the house to holiday guests who have a separate entrance and area of garden, with shared use of the pool. We never encountered any disturbance.
We would recommend this house and garden to anyone and wish you all very happy holidays!
