Photos and Description of this Canary Wharf & Docklands holiday apartment

A stunning luxury penthouse with roof terrace access from every room

This is a beautiful apartment in a modern building with a totally private wraparound roof terrace which offers amazing views of London. The apartment is incredibly light with floor to ceiling windows and sliding doors in all rooms which provide direct access onto the outside terrace. The apartment is beautifully furnished and the walls are covered in artwork from around the world. There is a very large open-plan living area with three sliding doors onto the outside terrace. There is plenty of comfortable seating and circular dining room table. The kitchen area is equipped to an exceptionally high standard with built-in microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer etc. There is Sky Digital TV and wireless internet connection throughout the apartment. There is also a built-in iPod docking station with speakers mounted in the ceiling of the living area. The two bedrooms have large built-in wardrobes and direct access to the terrace. There is a bathroom with shower and heated towel rail.

This stunning luxury penthouse apartment is based at the heart of the historic area of Limehouse and is only 3 minutes walk from the Limehouse station with direct trains to Oxford Circus (25 mins), the Tower of London/Tower Bridge (5 mins), the Olympic Park (16 mins), and London City Airport (15 mins). There is a bus stop outside the apartment block from where you can get buses to St Paul's Cathedral (15 mins) from where you can take a short walk across the Millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern. You can also take a bus directly to Trafalgar Square and all the attractions of the West End of London.

One of the most interesting and historic areas on the River Thames - Wapping- is only a 10 minute walk from the apartment. There are multiple historic pubs and fine restaurants in this fascinating area of the city. From Wapping it is a further 15/20 minute walk along the Thames path to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London, and from there you can continue your walk to the lively area of the Southbank with its many restaurants and cultural attractions, including the Tate Modern, the Royal Festival Hall, the British Film Institute, and the National Theatre.

If you walk the other way along the Thames path from the apartment you will reach Canary Wharf after about 10 minutes with its striking modern architecture and huge shopping malls with multiplex cinemas. From there you can continue down the Isle of Dogs and walk under the river itself through a historic pedestrian tunnel to Greenwich, home to the National Maritime Museum, the Greenwich Observatory, and the Cutty Sark.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A MINIMUM 3 NIGHT STAY POLICY

About James Greenshields

I run a media production company in London and live in this apartment when in the city. I have a house in the south of France which is also available to rent - a beautiful, isolated spot in the hills above the Mediterranean.

James Greenshields purchased this apartment in 2010

Why James Greenshields chose Canary Wharf & Docklands

This is a fantastic central location- only 3 minutes' walk from Limehouse station and yet when you are up in the penthouse, either inside the apartment or sitting outside on the huge roof terrace, you feel hidden away from the inner city life happening on the streets below.

Sumptuous and stylish city living

  • 5 out of 5
Myself, my partner and my 86-year old father stayed here for a long weekend recently. The whole experience was great, from booking and contact with the owner, the helpful greeting we received on our arrival to the stay itself. The apartment is modern, spacious and light and the weather enabled us to make the most of the fantastic roof terrace. Despite being in a busy location, it was lovely and quiet inside and the proximity of the DLR station made travelling around the city very simple. Having a supermarket literally on the ground floor was so uselful too. This place allows you an affordable taste of modern, luxury city living for that extra special treat, especially when compared to what we'd have to have paid for two hotel rooms of similar quality in a good location. In short, highly recommended.

Pretty Apartment in the East of London

  • 5 out of 5
The apartment is a little jewel, equipped with everything we needed during our 4 nights stay with three persons. A Sainsbury's grocery shop is located approx. 19 meters away from the house entrance.

The spot is easy to access with DLR.

The direct neighbourhood is rather low key, but if one walks a little, the area next to the Thames is pretty.

We enjoyed the stay and would book again.

James' flat is - just as others report - conveniently located, comfortable, just as hip and pretty as the pictures suggest and (here's where I get excited) offers reliable Wifi, TV, appliances, plumbing and "all mod cons."

Prior to arriving chez James, husband, daughter and I spent a few wonderful days in the Cotswolds to visit close friends, some of that time in a renovated 17th century home with a few days in a well managed country pub hotel. That experience reminded me of the charming quirk the English (+ Europeans) occasionally exhibit to tolerate "stuff that doesn't work" in the name of historical preservation (when really it's just "the plumber was on holiday" etc.) Trying to cook breakfast and keep our friend's country manor house from burning down from electrical fires was an ongoing adventure worthy of Fawlty Towers ("Don't mention the microwave"). Using the pub hotel's shower, hilariously fraught with danger.

"Coming home" to James' stunning - newly constructed - flat was heaven. This man takes obvious pride in that fact.

Having a Sainsbury express downstairs on the GF of the building is a godsend to a busy traveler or working person. The DLR Station at Limehouse really is two streets away, comes often and has a manned station if you want assistance with Oyster cards (tube/bus passes), or even rail tickets for travel from other stations (wish I'd purchased my Waterloo tickets at Limehouse; would have saved me a 30 minute wait in line at Waterloo).

The neighborhood is urban and commercial, but not at all unsafe. As former city dwellers we found it familiar. The "away from it all" of the penthouse above with its vibrant city views and "big sky" feeling, the convenience of the grocery store on the ground floor and close proximity of the DLR/Rail station put James' pad in a high category of convenience and comfort.

Many London flats are quite remote from a nice grocers, or a station. Most of London has buses near by. But ideally you really want both station and groceries near you... so check those issues before you book elsewhere. I found the convenience factor a huge plus with this pretty, modern flat. Then of course it looks lovely - tastefully hip, but warm too.

Booking and deposit return, all easy. Very reliable communications w/ James throughout the process.

Lastly...Being able to return at day's end to the roof deck to stroll or sit with a cocktail, watching the clouds roll by was so restorative in busy London.

James was incredibly accommodating with our travel schedule. Great neighborhood, excellent location for an early morning jog or simply a stroll along the lovely waterfront. No doubt this was one our our best finds.
