Hyères is still one of the rare preserved towns on the Côte d’Azur. Its palm-lined streets avenues & elegant Victorian villas are a legacy from the 18th century, when Hyères was discovered by the English aristrocacy. The centre is medieval, with several markets each week, many restaurants and cafés and a wide variety of shops.
The sea is clear and calm, with some of the cleanest beaches on the coast. It is ideal for swimming, scuba diving & windsurfing. You can walk to Giens (40 -50 minutes) along the sandy beach.
Day trips on the coast include the local islands,St Tropez, Nice, Cannes, Monte Carlo.
Inland are the hill villages of 'Green Provence': Cotignac, Lorgues,Tourtour, Sillans la Cascade, Aups, etc.
Aix en Provence & Avignon are also interesting day excursions.
