A recently renovated Cortijo, Las Rosas with 3 casitas in the midst of tranquil olive groves. Inspected, recommended and featured in the guidebook 'Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay in Spain 2009 & 2011'.
As well as being within easy reach of the cultural centres of Granada, Codoba, Ronda, Antequera, Seville and Malaga, Las Rosas is very close to a huge lake which provides spectacular views for drivers, walkers and cyclists.
The property is a 1.25 hour drive from both Malaga and Granada airports.
Marylynne and Gillian are well traveled sisters, born in South Africa, schooled in the U.K. and who lived in the Middle East much of their lives. As a mother who self-catered with two children many times, Marylynne has equipped the casitas to the highest level.
Marylynne and Gillian purchased this house in 2003
Cortijo las Rosas is situated uniquely placed to provide easy access to the monuments of the great Andalucian cities and yet also give you peace and tranquility beside the pool. A place which gives you a mix of cultural sightseeing and total relaxation.
Situated in the middle of olive groves with wonderful views from the pool side and many of the casitas. Bird song rather than the noise of traffic.
We all had a fantastic time at Cortijo Las Rosas last month, we are a party of cyclists from who knew Steve from when he lived in Kent. We were lucky to have such fine weather early in the season, and the roads were quiet (if a little bit hilly!) for cycling.
The Casitas were an excellent base and being early in the season we were thankful for the wood burning stove for the chilly evenings.
Thanks very much to Gillian, Mary-Lynne and Steve for a fantastic stay - the swimming pool should be warming up nicely now. — with Peter Rowe and 3 others.
Beautifully kept, and presented Corjito las Rosas is a perfect place to explore the area. Ten days in the Perez Casita was wonderous. Very well supplied, access to communal fridge and freezer made it easy to plan for meals. I highly recommend the plentiful welcome package.
It was nice to be able to split exporing days with rest days by the pool, enjoying the gardens and the view.
We appreciated the knowledge that both Gillian & Marylynne shared and hints of where to go to explore.
We highly recommend a stay here - thanks for the memories.
What a beautiful spot! These three charming casitas really are a find! The location is quite remote but well worth the effort. Our casita was charming and superbly maintained. The welcome pack of food was brilliantly chosen and being able to sit by the pool with a chilled glass of wine plus crisps and snacks just after our arrival was much appreciated! We sadly only had two days here but very much hope to be back for longer one day!
We loved our stay at Cortijo las Rosas. The casita was well equipped with really good extra touches, for instance local olives and olive oil, herb and spices. The owners made us feel very welcome and went out of the way to make our stay as special as possible. We were recommended a local restaurant for a gastronomic meal where we had a memorable evening. Marylynne even provided her own personal book for my bird watching husband. If you would like a holiday in a rural location with beautiful views and wonderful hosts, I would recommend you try this fabulous place to stay..
This was our second visit to Las Rosas, and we hope it will not be our last. The property itself is lovely and the location is wonderful. We stayed in Casita Perdiz - the closest to the pool. It is well appointed, comfortable and stays cool in the heat (in as much as anywhere can in Andalucia). Being on a hilltop Las Rosas is never oppressively hot. The property and the grounds are kept in excellent shape by Gillian and Marylynne, as is the pool. We spent hours watching house martins swoop down to catch insects from the water! The terrace gets the sun all day, but also offers plenty of shade. In the evening and at night it is a delight - no sound but the cicadas, and brilliant stars.
For me an added bonus is that Steve, one of the owners, is a keen cyclist and lent me a bike and led me on a couple of fabulous rides, including one round Lake Iznajar. Its not cycling for the inexperienced, being hilly and hot, but the scenery is beautiful, the roads are empty, the gradients are mostly reasonable (7-10%) and the coffee stops in the nearby villages are a treat. And Steve is excellent company on a ride!
Iznajar, the nearest village, is striking, with its white buildings and obligatory hill-top church. There are some tremendous views from the village over the lake and good places to eat, particularly the tapas bar in the patio at the top of the village. There is a lot of good food to be had in the vicinity. Gillian and Marylynne are reliable sources of recommendations for places to eat, from local cheap and cheerful to Michelin standard cooking. And the house kitchens are well equipped should you, like us, enjoy cooking. The welcome pack is recommended
The Cortijo is well sited for visiting Granada and Cordoba (both must-sees). Antequera is also well worth a visit. Having done that last year we pretty much stayed put (except for my rides and one trip to Cordoba) and chilled out.
All in all Las Rosas has quickly become one of our favourite places. Thanks to Gillian, Marylynne and Steve for being excellent hosts. Hope to see you all again soon!
Cortijo Las Rosas surpassed all expectations. If it's peace and tranquillity you require, then look no further. Gillian and Marylynne are absolutely lovely and the love they have for their beautiful Cortijo shows in even the smallest of details. Spotlessly clean, wonderful linen and gardens the create envy! So much thought has been put into making sure we had everything we needed and both ladies were on hand for any advice and information. Would very much like to return.
Deep in the Andalusian countryside among the olive groves, our casita met all expectations, the property was clean, well maintained, and the owners could not have been more helpful, thinking of everything one could need, in the kitchen, heating and a washing machine. Venturing to local towns and further afield to Cordoba and Granada with their excellent directions was very helpful. we would definitely recommend these casitas to friends and family.
Ideally situated, it can be reached with a journey of about 1-1/2 hours from Malaga and a little less from Granada Airport. It is also located on the crossroads between all the major cities in Andalucia, allowing for day trips to Granada, Seville, Cordoba and Malaga as well as the towns and beaches of the Costa del Sol.
Set up in the mountains some 8 km from the town of Iznajar, Cortijo Las Rosas is located close to the largest lake in Anadalucia. This provides us with an inland beach right on the edge of the Subbetica, which is a national park dotted with those beautiful ‘white villages’.
