Photos and Description of this Wreck Cove holiday cottage
2 bedrooms (sleeps 5), modern bath, wood stove, private beach access

The Sleeping Moose Cottage is located on the North Shore of Cape Breton Island, 8 km south of Cape Smokey, between the Cape Breton Highlands National Park (25 km) and the town of Baddeck (65 km) on the Bras d'Or Lakes.

The North Shore, originally settled by Scots in the early 1800s, is now home to lots of moose, a crab and lobster fishery (May - July), as well as many fine artisans and crafters.

From the deck of the Sleeping Moose Cottage you might see whales and seals, for sure ocean birds, and 'our' Bald Eagle who does a 'fly-by' a couple of times a day. Walk to our pebble beach and enjoy the beautiful view and sometimes-loud silence of the waves hitting the pebbles.

There are lots of hiking and snowshoeing trails in and outside the National Park, and if you like golf... Highland Links is a beautiful 25-minute drive away.

The Sleeping Moose is a housekeeping cottage with a full kitchen, but it is conveniently located on the same property as the Dancing Moose Cafe. It serves unusual breakfasts and lunches bilt around Dutch Pannekoeken (stuffed pancakes), Belgian waffles, a daily soup, and baked treats, all made from scratch in our own kitchen.

We are an all-season accommodation. Start your day watching the sun rise over the ocean. Then, spend a lazy summer's eve on your private deck watching the stars come out. Light a cosy fire in your wood stove on chilly evenings, or in winter when snow has changed the landscape. On rainy days, enjoy a free movie or a bit of surfing with our free wireless Internet.

Notes: This is the first year we will rent our little cottage. Although we think it is well equipped, please let us know if you miss items. We are working hard to get all the basic landscaping done in 2012. The fact that we are still a 'work in progress' might cause minor inconvenience but should not affect the fun of your stay. The TV is connected to the Internet; watch free movies and all kinds of TV series, or listen to music, all via Netflix.

A great little cottage by the ocean!

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 19 August 2012 Date of Stay: August 2012
We selected this cottage for our first week of holidays in Cape Breton because of its ideal location; right off the Cabot Trail with an amazing ocean view. We were pleased with the cottage, as it was clean, well maintained and supplied just as described on the website. All appliances were in excellent condition. The owner, friendly and helpful, provided storage for our bikes—which we greatly appreciated. The cottage was far enough from the road that no noise was heard during the night, a perfect place to unwind and relax. We had coffee at the picnic table by the ocean most mornings—what a treat! We had breakfast at the Dancing Moose Café and enjoyed Dutch pancakes prepared by the owner (also owner of cottage)—very delicious and definitely a must whether or not you rent this cottage! We certainly recommend this cottage.
