Tucked away in the Australian bush, is the Healesville Sanctuary. You might have to drag kids away from their games console at the holiday rental, but once you get here, they won’t want to leave. With more than 200 species of indigenous wildlife, including the Koala Bear and the elusive Tasmanian Devil, children and adults will have a glorious day exploring the Sanctuary. Enjoy lots of walk through exhibits and even a chance to view the animals who are in the animal hospital, as well as getting right up close to a joey in its mothers pouch.
Healesville Community Market is the place to be for those vintage bargains, bric a brac, local arts and crafts and handmade jewellery. Lots of boutiques and second hand shops are just full of treasures and collectables waiting for their new homes. Lots of local fare, locally made goods, handmade items, clothing and treats are available at the market and surrounds. This is one day out that the kids will never forget. Go down to the Yarra Valley Railway Station and hop aboard the Heritage Railway Ride that starts at Healesville station and goes all the way through a 150 m brick tunnel and all the way back again. Book your ticket and relax with a cappuccino in front of the roaring fire, while the kids tear up the adventure play area in front of the station, until you are ready to go, or relax here when you return, before you make your way back to your holiday house.
The wonderful temperate climate of Healesville means that it will be pleasant visit to your holiday home, no matter what time of the year you decide to go. It is slightly wetter during the winter months between April and September, where day time temperatures average at a cool 18 C and drop down to chilly 8 C at night.
The summer months bring gorgeous warm and sunny days with temperature reaching about 25C during the day and dropping to a cool 20C at night, so you will be able to enjoy a nice family BBQ in the summer months outside at your holiday home.
Visitors traveling to the Yarra Valley Region will arrive at Melbourne International Airport.
