Located on the fine strip of land which joins Wilsons Promontory National Park with Victoria is the unique village of Yanakie. Yanakie is found south of Foster and on the opposite side of Shallow Inlet to Sandy Point. Its location means it is very picturesque, presenting some fantastic natural scenery.
If you’re planning on visiting the Wilsons Promontory National Park, Yanakie is the last stop so it’s the perfect place to stay close by. Most of the accommodation offered has spectacular views across the waters as well as the magnificent mountain ranges that traverse Wilsons Promontory.
The township itself is very small, consisting of only a general store, petrol station and public hall. However, this becomes insignificant when you catch a glimpse of the calm body of water known as Shallow Inlet which is extremely popular with boating enthusiasts. This holiday haven is the place to go if you’re the outdoorsy type and just want to relax and unwind.
Yanakie has a remarkably temperate climate throughout the year, with average lows only getting down to 10 degrees and highs reaching 19 degrees Celsius.
