EILEEN: It seems appropriate to start with our host. She was a dream to deal with. Happy to answer any questions. Good communication. However in no way did she intrude on our privacy in any way.
THE UNIT: Exactly as shown in the pictures. What incredible value! It was a great location on the 3rd floor overlooking the treetops. Had everything that we needed. Very clean, comfortable and well appointed. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. We stayed for 16 nights and it was glorious.
THE RESORT: The resort itself is lovely and you get to use the facilities such as the pool, etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The resort setting is beautiful and very relaxing. One of our favourite spots was sitting in "the wharf" in a comfy chair and reading or just watching the barramundi in the ponds. The resort restaurant was alright but nothing to write home about. They have daily specials and we had the use of a 15% discount card on food and drinks which was nice. We had much better meals in Port Douglas itself. Two of our favourite options were the new Indian place and Paddy's Pub. Great value for money. Be aware that at the resort you are about 4km out of Port Douglas proper. You either have to walk into town (takes about 40 minutes) or catch a shuttle bus which costs $10 for a return trip.
The area: Our first time this far up the east coast. Incredible! Took quite a few trips to the reef which was our main interest. Went with Quicksilver (3 day reef pass). The pick of the trips was with Silversonic which visits 3 sites during the day. The Nursery bommie was astounding. Hired a care for 4 days and did Cape Tribulation, Mossman Gorge, Kuranda, Mareeba Wetlands, etc. Not impressed much with Kuranda and surrounds. If you love rivers. etc go a little further toward Mareeba. You will find Davies Creek National Park. You will not be disappointed with this area - far better than "touristy" Kuranda in our opinion. Mareeba Wetlands great if (like us) you are interested in birds.
CONCLUSION: Great location, great accommodation. Do as much or as little as you like. If you have never been to TNQ you must do it.
PS: Don't forget to protect yourself from sandflies!!
