Choose holiday accommodation in Pottsville Beach, New South Wales

Tucked into a beautiful stretch of coastline on the border of New South Wales and Queensland is the quiet seaside town of Pottsville Beach Beach.

Part of the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Pottsville Beach is close to the funky and offbeat town of Byron Bay while serious surf fans will enjoy the short trip north to the famous Surfers Paradise.

Popular with Australian visitors and those from overseas, Pottsville Beach can offer a terrific selection of holiday rentals, including houses, villas and self-contained accommodation.

What’s in a name?

Pottsville Beach takes its name from its very first resident, Bill Potts, who owned the first house in the town in the early 1930s. Originally known as Potts Point, it quickly became Pottsville Beach and is now loved for its gorgeous beaches, excellent fishing and water sports.

Its beaches are quiet and family friendly and added attractions for families in the town are the safe waterways on both beaches and waterways. Time your stay in Pottsville Beach holiday accommodation around the time of the town’s annual raft race day in January and enjoy a whole lot of fun, messing about on both river and ocean.

About an hour’s drive north of Pottsville Beach is Queensland’s famous Gold Coast and the iconic Surfers Paradise, the 3km of sand and surf that has become synonymous with Australia and with the country’s obsession with the sea. And if surfing or posing with the sun worshippers isn’t for you, there are plenty of other activities on this extraordinary stretch of coastline that might appeal, from theme parks to jet boat rides, shopping to clubbing.

Half an hour’s drive south is Byron Bay, the capital of Australian counter culture and an amazing destination in its own right, thanks to its beautiful beaches, great shopping, bars and restaurants. The lighthouse at Cape Byron is the most easterly point of Australia and a must-do on any visit while the town’s many spas and alternative healers offer a relaxing experience.

Embracing nature

The Northern Rivers region is considered the most bio diverse in Australia and Pottsville Beach provides a wealth of opportunities to experience the extraordinary range of this vast continent’s native flora, fauna and wildlife.

Close to the town is the wetlands area of Hastings Point – rent a canoe and marvel at its inhabitants from a very close vantage point along the area’s many estuaries.

Pottsville Beach Beach Bicentennial Environment Park is another magnificent wetland with mangroves, coastal eucalypt forest, heath and rainforest. From your Pottsville Beach holiday accommodation, you can organise a picnic or barbecue for your day out here and walk or cycle its trails to enjoy the park to the full.

Take the tourist drive from Murwillumba to Tweed Heads to see some of the Northern Rivers’ most beautiful wildlife area – a river cruise or fishing charter in the Tweed River area will be the perfect end to your day.

For more relaxing activities, mingle with the locals in the markets that take place in Pottsville Beach on the first and third Sundays of every month.

Sunshine on a rainy day

The Northern Rivers region in which Pottsville Beach is situated enjoys a sub-tropical climate with hot and rainy summers, and cool, dry winters. Average daily temperatures in summer are around 30?C with a cooling breeze from the ocean – do be careful in the sun as those unused to the fierce Australian heat can burn very quickly. Make sure you slap on the sunscreen and take a hat with you before leaving your Pottsville Beach holiday accommodation. If you’re visiting during winter, you can expect daytime temperatures around an average 20?C with cooler evenings.

Getting here

If you’re travelling to Pottsville Beach from the UK, you can fly direct from London Heathrow Airport to either Sydney or Brisbane, then get a connecting flight to either Ballina or Gold Coast International Airport. While car rental will make the onward journey to Pottsville Beach holiday rentals a faster process, there are regular coach services calling into the town from both airports.
