Fishermans Bay: A Peaceful Seaside Retreat

Fishermans Bay is a suburb of Port Stephens located on the beautiful waters of Fishermans Bay on the Tasman Sea. Fishermans Bay is unique in that it offers a lovely, uncrowded coastline, but is still just minutes away from Anna Bay, Salamander Bay, and Nelson Bay. You can head out for the day to visit the area attractions and still come home to a peaceful village without crowds of tourists.

    Fishermans Bay Accommodation

Like most Port Stephens accommodation, Fishermans Bay holiday rentals are mostly located on or near the water. Some offer private balconies overlooking the water, perfect for whale watching in the on-season months of May through to September. Nearly all have private kitchens and barbeques, so take advantage and cook yourself a holiday feast of fresh seafood and local produce. Fishermans Bay accommodation often offers secluded properties on the waterfront, so you may have a stretch of coastline all to yourself.

    Tomaree National Park

Most of Fishermans Bay isn't residential. In fact, the majority of land in Fishermans Bay is in the Tomaree National Park. It's a wonderful place to spend a day hiking through the bush, birdwatching, or picnicking. You can also paddle, sail, or keep an eye out for whales in the water. One of the best trails in the park is the Tomaree Head Summit, a 45-minute, two kilometre one-way walk to the summit of Tomaree Head. At its highest, the peak is 161 metres, and you'll see amazing views of the coastline below. Keep your eye out for dolphins!

Don't miss the Point Stephens Lighthouse, the largest lightstation designed by prominent designer Alexander Dawson. Built in 1862, the Port Stephens lighthouse is also the only lighthouse in Australia with an entrance on the first floor and a swept tower base. You can also walk out to Tomaree Head to see the World War II gun emplacements, a must-see for any fan of military history.

    Anna, Salamander, and Nelson Bay

Right next to Fishermans Bay lies Anna Bay, a popular holiday destination for both beach and 4WD fans. Fishing is also a popular pastime in Anna Bay, so be sure to bring your poles. Stockton Beach is your best bet for surfing conditions. Don't forget to check out the amazing sand dunes in Anna Bay, which are the biggest moving coastal land mass on this hemisphere. Salamandar Bay hosts the Body and Soul Retreat Spa, so pop in for a spa treatment on a rainy day or after a long day at the beach. Nelson Bay is another lovely holiday location with terrific diving and snorkelling.

Fishermans Bay puts you both close to the action without all the tourist crowds. It's the perfect place to get close to nature without sacrificing on local attractions!
