Umina Beach for Day Trips and Longer Stays

Just a short distance outside Sydney is situated a beautiful little place called Umina Beach. It has fresh water all around it in the form of Broken Bay, the Hawkesbury River and Brisbane Waters, which also means that is within easy reach of the National Parks as well.

The one thing that Umina Beach accommodation has going for it is that there are actually two beaches to choose from; Umina Beach itself and Ocean Beach with Pearl Beach being just off the headland to the south.

The views around this area are absolutely stunning and, as one would expect, it has won many awards for its attractions. Not only do people love visiting for protracted holidays, Umina Beach accommodation also caters for weekenders who want to get out of the city for a couple of nights.

This place is just a couple of miles outside of Woy Woy train station, around eight miles or less from Gosford and for those who like trivia, these are the most southerly beaches on the whole coast. Those coming from Sydney to pre-booked accommodation will only have about forty five minutes of freeway driving to contend with.

Things to Do in Umina Beach

Bouddi National Park is well worth a visit and is only around five miles away. This park is highly unusual since it extends into the sea which means that even the marine habitats are protected. Here find one of the last temperate rainforests anywhere on this particular coast. Bouddi is an Aboriginal word which means ‘heart’.

Over at the Hawkesbury River, Lion Island, so called because it looks like a crouching big cat, find the original Fauna Reserve, now called a Nature Reserve, which has a huge population of penguins. This place is on the National Estate register as a breeding ground for these delightful little creatures so access is limited but it is well worth a visit. Kids are safe here because the sea has little surf and there is a host of other sea life to keep them interested. Don’t forget to bring snorkels for the whole family.

Umina Beach Village has a laid back, family friendly type of atmosphere. There are enough cafes, take-away food places, pie shops and fashion stores to keep everyone busy. The place is rather flat so it is very easy to get around on foot or by cycling. Staying here in the excellent holiday accommodation means that visitors are right in the middle of all the general attractions.

Because of the nearness of Sydney, people who hire cars for their holiday can easily go off there for a day or two to see the bright lights. Sidney Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, all the fun parks etc are all available throughout the year. Take in a show or a music festival before retiring back to the quietness that is Umina Beach.

    Where to Stay

As one would expect from a beautiful location like this, Umina Beach holiday accommodation takes many forms. With holiday homes or serviced apartments being amongst the most popular, rental accommodation comes in all ranges to suit all pockets. There are even places where one or two night stays are possible and these cater mainly for the weekenders who come in from Sydney. Holidays can be spent in top notch hotels or even in caravan parks depending on the level of accommodation required.

    Weather Patterns

As Australia is on the exact opposite side of the world to the UK, summer falls between October and April. However, even in the so called winter months, it is still quite pleasant for those from colder climes. All people need is something light and long sleeved to get by comfortably.

    How to Get There

Most major airlines fly this route from main UK airports to Sydney and then it is only a short transfer on to Umima Beach by car, train or bus. All this can be booked through the Internet, as well as the accommodation, so that there is no fuss when arriving in the country after the long flight.
