Copacabana – Central Coast, New South Wales

Just the name Copacabana conjures images of sandy, white beaches and relaxation. The Central Coast of New South Wales has this to offer and much more. To take advantage of all this beautiful region has to offer, a holiday rental property at Australia’s Copacabana would make a great base for exploring the magnificent coastline and hinterland between Sydney and Newcastle.

Captain James Cook in 1770, was the first tourist travelling up the coastline to record the three bluff points of Bulbararing Point in the north, Mourawaring Point and Bombi Point in the south. He named the area ‘Cape Three Points’. In early European settlement days, Copacabana was known as Tudibaring (an Aboriginal word meaning “Where the waves pound like a beating heart”). And after a holiday in this area you may leave your heart behind. The name Copacabana was given to the first real estate development here in the 1950’s, and was named after its famous namesake Brazilian beach.

Copacabana sprawls over Tudibari point with McMaster’s beach sweeping majestically to the south. From Captain Cook Park at the point you may be lucky enough to see the humpback whales on their annual migration (best time June-July). The whales pass close to the points here and can often be seen breaching, blowing and frolicking as they slowly head north.

    Things to do and see

The focus of this whole region is enjoying the beachside lifestyle and you can place yourself perfectly to enjoy by choosing from the large range of beachfront holiday rentals at Copacabana, with swimming and surfing practically on your doorstep. Imagine taking that early morning or evening walk along the beach with your special someone – there are many pet-friendly holiday rentals allowing this to be a possibility.

If you would like to learn how to surf, there are a number of surf schools providing all the equipment and quality instruction. The beaches are patrolled in summer to make for safe family fun and for the family fisherman the choices are many with beach, lake, river and even deep sea fishing on offer. In season there are whale-watching tours (but the fishermen aren’t allowed to try for these big ones). You can enjoy the tranquillity and stunning scenery of a Hawkesbury River Cruise or hire your own boat and explore the waterways.

If you’ve always wanted to cuddle a koala (and who hasn’t), there are unique opportunities to get close with some of Australia’s unique, lovable and dangerous wildlife at the Australian Reptile Park. You can spend a day here getting to know the animals, feeding the kangaroos and watching the crocodile feeding (from a safe distance).

Come and discover the beautiful, exotic and exciting world of Australian native plants and The Wildflower place, a nursery specialising in native plants with hundreds of different species. Give yourself a visual treat, visiting Cedar Park Lavender Farm, a working lavender farm with over 5500 plants creating a fragrant purple carpet, a feast for your eyes and nose. However, if you want to give your tastebuds a treat you must try the local ‘Firewater’, an award winning local fruit-wine made from oranges, chilli, lime and parsley. This tasty wine is possibly best enjoyed at sunset on the balcony of your Copacabana beach holiday accommodation at the end of a hard day relaxing in the sun.
