About the host
Hosted by Hayden Foster
We are Caroline and Hayden Foster and we have 3 children aged 15, 11 and 10, we are a busy family from Suffolk in the UK. Both the Charente and our house sort of found us and we love both! Now we have undertaken the essential repairs to make it comfortable we wish to share it to cover some bills. We live very busy and active lives at home and are involved in many sports and other activities just like many other families. Some including, swimming, water sports, cycling, walking and reading are an important part of our trips to France. That is before we move onto eating and drinking - as one would expect the wines are excellent! We find our visits to France a wonderful opportunity to have family based down time which is often difficult to squeeze in at home. The French life style has become part of our year that we all look forward to we have traveled with ages 1 to 70 and all have enjoyed it. . Whilst we live in the UK we are lucky enough to have a number of Charente based friends and helpers and so we can usually resolve any problems relatively quickly. We have only allowed friends to travel before so are new to this but will do our very best to help.
Why they chose this property
I have been involved in property for some 25 years and some places just float your boat! That is what the Charente and our house do for us. I love a smart hotel room don't get me wrong but I also love the rusticity and homeliness or 11 Rue Des Batelieras.
I always tell people that whilst the weather is not totally reliable, the fields remain green and it is on average some 5 degrees warmer than East Anglia. There is miles of open space. The canoe center less than a mile away set you off down stream and you will without doubt see more birds than people over the 3 km down the Vienne - to see a kingfisher is particularly special. The lake beaches are life guarded most days and the water is warm and where better to get a first taste of water sports than in a flat warm lake! The wine tastes better (even from the supermarket) and seems to deliver less hangovers - it is certainly cheaper!
Property rentals (as other things) are relatively inexpensive and you can rent a whole house at only one step up in cost terms from camping. We are looking for people to enjoy our home, treat it with respect and enable us to cover the bills. We have tried hard not to bombard people with information any queries please do ask.

What makes this property unique
We can only tell you what we love about Foulounoux. The village is quintessentially French, it is sleepy and peaceful. We can walk to both the local town via the "Chaban". We love the view across the Vienne valley, it was one of the reasons we ended up there.
Whilst no tourist Mecca their is plenty to do within an hour (somethings are much closer) to keep anybody from 2 to 82 amused. Unlike many holiday lets where people are squeezed into small bedrooms and there is very little living space. We chose only to let to small numbers and their is ample circulation space.
The house is relaxed and comfortable and in our view has "soul" which aids the unwinding process. We hope this is helpful any queries please do ask.
