I'm a musician, born in Reykjavik, but actually living with my family in Paris.
This is our family house in Rvk, and we all need to go there as often as possible meeting family and friends, and enjoying life.
We will be happy to have you as guest in our cosy house in downtown Reykjavik. We like the charm of old houses, having everything we need few steps away...
Helga Gudmundsdottir purchased this apartment in 2011
A great location.
This house is just one street from the main street Laugavegur, but still on a quiet part of town.
Only 900m from the FlyBusTerminal BSI, with departures for day trip/or longer excursions.
It's nice to hear the church bells on Sunday mornings, and going swimming in Sundhollin. The sea side is only 300m from the house, great for an evening walk. There are many day trips destinations to do from Reykjavik, in summer or winter, I'll give you some travel tips.
It was one of the best holiday flats we've stayed. Very smooth and helpful communication, the flat was tastefully decorated with real vintage furniture and equipment. We were able to take a full advantage of the location and the car that we also rented from the owner. We truly enjoyed our stay, thanks to the flat! Takako H. (England)
We were totally jet-lagged when we arrived to the apartment; I was prepared for how petite this place is because I had studied the pictures and it was accurately represented...but my husband was not happy. We took a nap and then started to explore the neighborhood and that's when the "love affair" began between my hubby and this place! It is a small place, but the location is EXCELLENT. 3 blocks to the most fabulous bakery, coffee houses, spa houses, restaurants, shopping and a discount grocery store (called Bonus). But it is still a quiet street away from the hustle and bustle. The washing machine and dryer worked splendidly; so important as we were dusty and dirty after a long day of hiking and it was so nice to have clean beautiful clothes each day. Helga communicated very well when we had some confusion about the heaters. The rooms are well-laid out. The second bedroom has a very good trundle bed underneath. The twin bed above it and the master bedroom bed were EXCELLENT (yes, that word again); sort of firm/foam type of material. Our backs felt great after a good night sleep after hiking glaciers etc. Reykeyvik is EXTREMELY expensive and the food prices are eye-popping (more so than Paris and Turks and Caicos); for example, soup in a bread bowl is $19 dollars ! So it helped that we had a kitchen to make foods/breakfast and lunch. The bathroom was tiny but the shower was tall enough for my 6 foot 3 inch husband. The place had all sorts of thoughtful extras....plenty of pillows, linens, dishes, silverware, pots, pans. Most importantly, Helga was a caring and responsive host. My clothes were misplaced and I thought they were taken by accident from the dryer by someone else. Helga was so concerned about finding them and tackled the problem with humor and grace. I finally found my items (user error!) and Helga was gracious about my dumb mistake. Here's to Helga and here's to the tiny/yet well-equipped apartment that we cherished so much. My husband swears he wants an apartment that size now---he said "it just made life so wonderful because you can live in a beautifully compact way with everything was so close by.". All the buildings in this neighborhood had comparable sized apartments, so it wasn't really petite by local standards in the slightest (pardon the pun). Just a marvelous place if you want everything your heart could desire.
It's a really good flat and after some minutes you ll feel like at home and as a citizen of reykjavik. The city center is around the corner and a good place to start visiting iceland. We were there with a baby, and that was no problem to handle these circumstances. Thanks to Helga :)
My family enjoyed a 10 night stay in the apartment in July 2015. The location was just right - within an easy walk of the city highlights, but in a peaceful residential street. There are lots of good restaurants nearby - but if you fancy cooking, the kitchen is very well supplied. It was great to meet Helga - who was a great host and pointed out some things for us that we might otherwise have missed. I've already recommended the apartment to any friends who might make the trip to Iceland. Thanks again Helga!
Had a wonderful time staying at this apartment. It was really the perfect location; just around the block from the local hotspring/pool, and within easy walking distance from all the major sights of the city. The apartment itself was small, but plenty of room for the 3 of us - we each had our own space, and the kitchen was great to have. The food store was only a few blocks away, as well as the main shopping street with restaurants, cafe's, bakeries, you name it. The use of the car was very handy. Although there was no free parking on the apt. street, it was easy to find a free space close by. Will definitely stay here again if I get the chance.
Helga's flat was perfect for our family of 4 (2 boys ages 9 & 11). We could close off & darken the two bedrooms enough to adjust to the time difference & long daylight hours at our own pace. The key-code entry enabled our kids to wander around a bit on their own, usually looking for neighborhood cats to give treats to. The short walk to cafes, restaurants, grocery store, cute shops, ATM & swimming pool were very convenient. Driving around the country was *so* interesting. For people planning a trip to Iceland, we highly recommend The Small Book of the Icelander :-)
Two apartments + studio in the same house, and in the heart of Reykjavik, only 300m from the sea.
Great location, close to coffee shops, restaurants, shops and museums of the city, but still in a quiet street.
The house is only at 900 meters from the FlyBus terminal BSI, or 15 min by walk.
