About this property

Country location with easy access to local towns. Sleeps up to six people.

Set in the rural beauty of the Normandie-Maine Regional Natural Park, L'Aide Frechu, a former farmhouse, has been converted to a comfortable and spacious gite sleeping up to six.

Furnished with a blend of modern and rustic, the ground floor comprises:
A large sitting room with log burner, TV with English and European channels and an entertainment library of films and books.
A spacious fitted kitchen/dining room with built-in oven, ceramic hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a microwave, kettle, toaster, blender and coffee machine and dining table for six. French windows to the garden.
A single bedroom with views over the countryside.
A cloakroom with W.C. and wash hand basin.

A steep staircase rises to the upper floor which comprises:
Master bedroom with double and single bed, rural views.
Twin bedroom with Velux window so you can sleep under the stars.
Modern bathroom with bath, shower over, W.C. and basin.
Separate shower room with shower, W.C. and basin.

The basement, reached from the garden, provides a laundry with washing and drying facilities and entertainment: full size table tennis table, mini snooker, bats, balls etc.

An open garage at the side of the house can be used for parking or storage.

Grounds extend to around an acre and are natural and rural in nature. There is a small, natural pond amongst the trees which fills and empties according to the weather. Children should not be left unsupervised here.

The house is reached via a long farm drive which is not tarmacked.

The house is situated within easy driving distance to three small towns - Mortain being just five minutes away. Here you will find an open air swimming pool, a beautiful lookout from La Petite Chapelle, waterfalls, a range of small shops and two supermarkets. St Hilaire du Harcouet is a larger town with a thriving weekly market and wider range of shops. Domfront is an historic, medieval town with a former castle and traditional timbered buildings.

Locally, you will also find a karting centre and access to miles of safe walking and cycling routes on former railway lines.

Two coastlines provide lovely days out - the north for WW2 landing beaches, the Bayeux Tapestry and historic city of Caen. To the west the iconic Mont St Michel, Dinard, lively St Malo, Granville and numerous beaches.

There are many other towns and interesting places to visit including Le Mans, Bagnoles sur l'Orne, Villedieu-les-Poeles, Rennes, Fougeres, Vire and Flers.

Country get away
We had a lovely stay in Mortain. The location was easy to find as google maps sent us straight to the house even though it was off the beaten track. The house was spacious and had plenty of outside space our nearest neighbours being a field of cows. The cellar with table tennis table and pool table were a bonus as was the washing machine and dryer (also in the cellar). The beds were reasonably comfortable - the double bed being a bit on the hard side for me personally. Kitchen easy to use. It could do with a few more chopping boards but otherwise well equipped. The living room was comfortable. We couldn't get on with the WiFi dongle. If you want very good WiFi then this isn't the place for you. We had a nice meal in the hotel de la Poste and a good pizza takeaway from les Cascades in Mortain. There was a reasonably big Carrefour supermarket in Mortain. Visiting the sites (Bayeux Tapestry, Normandy Beaches, Mont-st-Michel for example) were day trips which we knew in advance, but the roads were good and not busy. Nearby attractions: The Musee due Poire in Barenton was good. We went on the cascades walk in Mortain and the La Fosse Arhour walk near Lonlay-l'Abbaye. We bought biscuits from the biscuit factory in Lonlay-l'Abbaye. Overal a lovely week.

Peaceful and rural
We spent a week here in October, and it was peaceful and quiet. Property is actually larger than it appeared on the photos, with an additional toilet and bedroom that I wasn't expecting, so we were more than happy. The house was very clean, and comfortable, with everything that we could have needed, including dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. The setting of the house with cows in the adjacent field made it feel very rural which is what we wanted. The nearby cycle track fantastic. Perfect place to teach my son to ride. Overall we had a great time and the property was very comfortable.

Very well equipped cottage in good location
Cottage had everything needed for a home away from home holiday. Very clean and tastefully decorated. Great location with amazing dark skies. Loads of leaflets with ideas if you are new to the area.
