Just a 2mile Uber from Downtown Asheville, Utopia, constructed with a sizable driveway with cameras for guest comfort and safety, appears to be hidden deep in the countryside, teaming with wildlife, noisy with birds. This total industrial style luxury renovation commenced in 2015 incorporating several independent vacation rentals.
Accessible step-free, our most recent work of art is The Factory Suite which accommodates two people in a king size custom locally sourced ambrosia maple bed attached to the wall and suspended by antique steel chain links. Accommodating cotton linens with ironed pillowcases, this bed boasts a superb Tuft & Needle mattress made in North Carolina for an extraordinary night’s sleep. The efficient spot-lit 25ft south wall is entirely clad in an industrial metallic mural that took several months to create and install, littered with locally sourced and signed miniature object d’art. The steel trimmed ambrosia maple and bedside tables support repurposed twin exhaust manifolds flanking a delightful fall color event steel fructus-acidum etched headboard supporting an orange-peel acoustic panel grid to ensure what happens in The Factory, stays in The Factory!
The pair of faux fur butterfly chairs atop a luxurious cowhide concealing radiant floor heat, will enable you to catch-up on the latest movies sitting up or laying down. Extend the wall-mounted TV and you can even view the latest movie from your king bed. Leather clad stools and a steel rimmed table will permit working or dining at the table overlooking a magnificent rural landscape stretching as far as Chunns Cove Farm and frequently visited by Hawkins prowling from power lines.
Thick insulated curtains block or frame beautiful sunsets making The Factory a bright, light suite with a whole west wall of custom Asheville Perdue Studios cast iron factory windows. The port-holed kitchenette is an aesthetic delight rendering scarlet tips and industrial touches fitted with a fridge, toaster oven and kettle with cutlery and dishes.
Past the kitchenette, a pair of lockdown-inspired pocket-doors sheathed in copper, brass, tin and aluminum lead to the bathroom and the walk-in closet. The custom concrete sink and table were poured by Marc, the bathroom shelves were custom adapted by Perdue Studios repurposing 4 juggernaut pedals and the WC shelves were constructed using aluminum and copper 90 degree angles. Opposite the WC hangs a repurposed X-ray machine that now boasts local art accentuating a mirror image! A repurposed lead-framed window is now conveniently a mirror flanked by charming Atlanta sourced Edison bulb light fixtures. A glass shower panel ‘U’ is spot-lit by vertical inlaid strip-lighting while the glass barn-door permits access to the sizable rainfall shower-head daytime-lit by a natural light porthole.

Such a unique, amazing place to stay!!

This place is awesome! It was hard to decide which room to get because they are all so fantastically decorated. The whole house has a great vibe, too. Definitely better than most hotels I've stayed at because of the personal touches. We had a clipboard welcoming us with recommendations for restaurants and sites included. The living room is stocked with boardgames, and there are drinks and snacks available for purchase. The pool area is really nice and secluded because of the location of the house. The surrounding area is quite, and it's not a far drive to anywhere in Asheville. I would definitely stay here again.

The Factory: such an awesome atmosphere!

My girlfriend and I love the mountains and weekend get always, though we don’t get to make the trips as often as we wish due to working and general life. However, my girlfriend located “Utopia” a while back and we had wanted to stay in “The Master” suite for some time, but was unable to find it. “The Factory” at Utopia is in the same Manor and definitely fit the bill for us. We usually attempt to avoid Asheville and stay in areas that haven’t been taking over by modernist and progressive life. We decided to take the chance and experience Utopia anyway, and it was wonderful. Being only a few minutes away from Asheville, Utopia still offers a feel of privacy and seclusion that we didn’t think we’d have. Upon arrival and pulling up the paved path (that is off the main path and in a wooded hill side) the home has an unique steampunk appearance. The manor has a personality that speaks for its self. The “Factory” was a very pleasant shock when we opened the entryway. The photos don’t do the rooms justice; we were blown away by the custom artistic touch that ran throughout the whole house. The open floor plan was stunning and we kept noticing details that we’d overlooked previously (looking for the little hand made wire people was fun). We loved the custom bed that was supported by beams and very large rustic chain. Chains, beams, hooks, welded rings, dimmed lights and such ran throughout the room and provided a feel that many couples seek and understand. Otherwise it’s a steampunk room that may go unnoticed. We can’t say enough about how amazing this room was. The private bathroom has the same feel, and has a shower that easily fits two with room to spare. An overhead rainfall shower head and amazing tile and slate was breathtaking. Not to mention, this place was unbelievably clean. The pool was closed due to the cold season, but the brand new hot tub was open and great. However, it is shared with the rest of the home (which isn’t a big deal because it’s not a lot of rooms). Some complained on their reviews of the security cameras, they aren’t hidden, but don’t ruin the experience at all. We don’t care if we’re on camera outside (as most businesses have cameras on the exterior) and we appreciate the security with Asheville so close. The rooms have small kitchens, but the common kitchen is very nice and fully equipped and clean. Lastly, Fay and Marc were on the property working. The had the chance to meet and they’re awesome people! Love it

Great Asheville Stay

Faye was such an amazing person to communicate my trip with! She was thoughtful and was always helpful. The Factory speaks for itself how awesome it was! A truly unique place that looks forward to holding memories for you! Like other reviews say, the check in process is lengthy but they only do it out of the good of their hearts to ensure safety for you and everyone there! Definitely worth it!

This unique property was both cozy and welcoming, the artists touches throughout the property made it both enjoyable and engaging with modern amenities that made it a very comfortable stay. We will be back, this was exactly what we would have expected out of Asheville North Carolina! Thank you!

Why they chose this property

Chunns Cove is a world unto itself, just 5 minutes from downtown Asheville. We have two neighbors who are barely visible through the trees, otherwise all you can see is a spectacular almost 360 degree wooded views. The cove is human-quiet but bird-noisy! We regularly see creatures that you wouldn't expect and could easily mistake this place in summer for a Costa Rican rain-forest! Ingles, our local grocery store, is 2 minutes down the road and Walgreens and Wholefoods are just 5 minutes away.

What makes this property unique

Chunns Cove is just 2m to Downtown but you could easily be mistaken for thinking you were in a tropical rainforest in the middle of nowhere! Teaming with unusual wildlife, this unique forest is blessed with a farm and a beautiful lake at the north end of Chunns Cove. Driving to the left takes you along Vance Gap - a winding unpaved road sparsely littered with high end estates with magnificent views. This miniature ecosystem boasts a stream that graces the west side estates creating watering and swimming holes for our bears, wild turkeys, deer, coyotes, bobcats, groundhogs, hares and rabbits.
