About this property

Close To Downtown, Old Town In The Near North Valley Neighborhood, Sleeps 3-4.

This adobe house was lovingly redone by us to be the office of our puppet and object theatre. (Our workshop is east of the house.) We've moved our office and now offer the house to travelers. The house is modest outside and interestingly contemporary inside. In the spring and summer, there are lilacs, roses, peaches, apples and grapes (100+ year old vine) growing around the property.
Please note: the cooling system is central evaporative cooling, not refrigerated air. This system is widely used in New Mexico, where the climate is dry.
The house has two bedrooms, with a queen bed in one and a twin bed in the second bedroom. Futon possibility in the living room. Sleeps 3-4 comfortably. There is lots of light and gorgeous hard wood floors.
Easy access to downtown, major freeways (I-25 and I-40), public transportation, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Old Town, museums, the Nature Center and the Albuquerque Bio Park and Botanic Garden and La Montanita Organic Food Co-op.
The house has welcomed friends from around the world and is ready for the next guests. Your two hosts, who live three miles away, speak French, German, Spanish and English.
There's a small library that includes art and puppetry books, and good coffee and tea in the breakfast area of the house.
There's an organic food co-op and a vegetarian restaurant both within 7 minutes by car. And other good restaurants including farm to table fresh cuisine. And the train stations to catch the local Rail Runner to Santa Fe are super close.

We are happy to share our knowledge of the area, if you desire!

We loved our stay! The location is safe, convenient, and quiet. Super easy access to Old Town, downtown Albuquerque and the Balloon Fiesta. The nicely decorated home had everything we needed for the bedroom(s), bath, and kitchen. Loren adds special touch's that are welcoming to this very clean and comfortable home. She is very accommodating and readily available and an excellent host! We cherish the friendship of Loren and Isabelle.

Pleasant and comfortable
We love staying in this cute, comfortable little adobe home. We've been so fortunate that its been available to rent a second time for us. The house is very clean and we appreciated all the extra touches like the fresh flowers and basic grocery items provided upon our arrival. Loren is quick to respond to any questions or concerns. She is so helpful with great places to eat, awesome bakeries, and attractions in the area. We feel safe here and like the location. We are very pleased and grateful with our stay!

We, Isabelle and Loren, are a puppet & object theatre company based in Albuquerque. We work in the US, Canada and Europe. Isabelle is the object theatre director, Loren the puppeteer. We met when we were both performing at a puppet and object theatre festival in Bochum, Germany, and began to work together in 1998. Isabelle grew up in France and is now an American citizen. Loren grew up in Los Angeles and has lived in Albuquerque for 44 years. She came to NM to do graduate studies in anthropology and evolved (!) to being a street puppeteer touring the western US. Isabelle came to Albuquerque to direct an object theatre play. She has created and directed over 50 shows during her years in the theatre throughout Europe and the US, and also taught the study of cross cultural communication and body language at various universities in Paris.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property because it had a 100+ year old adobe house (adobe in the southwest makes a lot of sense: cool in the summer and holds heat in the winter) and a great workshop space to the east of the house. We've created 5 shows in that space and share it from time to time with others doing interesting projects. We've worked a lot on the interiors of both the house and the workshop, the garden, and the atmosphere in general and can now say it has the feeling we hoped for when we first saw it. We have moved our office to a smaller space and the house has evolved from our office into a guest house for traveling friends and artists. It's conveniently located - one can bike to downtown, Old Town, museums, etc. Also the major freeways are 5 minutes away.
The neighborhood has both residences and light businesses, which allowed us to have our workshop and office.

What makes this property unique

Lilacs, apples and grapes are from the original owners, over 100 years ago, and they are glorious in the spring and fall.
It's very conveniently located - easy to get most anywhere, including to the local Road Runner train that runs between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Many people ride their bikes from the house to the train station.
There's an organic food co-op 8 minutes away (2.4 miles) and a great vegetarian restaurant (Annapurna's World Vegetarian Cafe) 7 minutes (2.5 miles)
