Architect-designed home featuring the finest in finishes and fixtures: marble & soapstone in kitchen & baths; natural wood finishes throughout; top-of-the-line appliances & fixtures; custom cabinets & bookcases, and custom light fixtures. The first floor is comprised of a tree-lined entry-hall running through the house, large living room, dining room for 14, chef's kitchen, family room/ home theater, full bath and a beautiful 3-story atrium hung with antique quilts. The second level contains the magical master suite (custom king bed) with extraordinary private bath, two guest rooms (one queen, one pair of twins), an over-sized guest bath with soaring ceiling and Vermont marble, and an intimate 1/2 bath.

Main Floor: The unique tree trunk alle and radiant heated floor with lighted beam ceiling bring you into the Lodge.

Bookcase-lined, quiet, separate family room with surround-sound 7-speaker (sub-woofer) home theater, 9x16-ratio movie-format rear-projection cable TV, VCR, DVD and Bose 6-pack CD stereo.

Three story light court with radiant heated floor, antique quit collection, 3-story wall of windows and light

Extensive / imaginative decks on 2 sides.

Second Floor: The centerpiece of the 2nd floor is the master suite with grand cathedral ceiling, private balcony, massive windows, great beams, and architect-designed custom king bed. The doors are make by local craftsmen. There is a TV-for-two with DVD/VHS. The over size jacuzzi is hidden in its own nook with exterior views. The en suite custom bathroom is a jewel (see detail below). The bookcase is made of fir. The room features a large antique Chinese rug. Soft lighting provides a romantic setting.

Two guest rooms feature mountain theme settings and both wooded and distant mountain views. One has twin beds and the other a four-poster king bed.

He has had a home on the site of Upper Pines Lodge since 1987. He relishes the joys of skiing, hiking, biking, dining, soaring, antiquing and socializing with local friends as well as his guests who hail from many points of the compass.

  • Each bathroom is totally custom / unique. The master has a huge shower/steamroom all marble and glass. The extended vanity is a single marble slab with double hand blown glass sinks. The vanity cabinet is fir. The floor is heated. The oversize jacuzzi is in a separate nook with an exterior view. The oversize 2nd full bath has an extra tall ceiling, a large window, a full length mirror made of log segments, an antique verde marble vanity, fir cabinetry, wood floor with radiant heat, and a shower curtain rod of log. The 3rd full bath has a custom glass and marble shower and a custom sink carved from a gigantic snow leopard marble boulder. The floor has radiant heat The half bath has a granite countertop.

The basics: numerous skylights, outdoor 10 zone gas-fired hot-water heat including radiant heat in numerous rooms. Architectural wonder of sorts designed by noted architect David Sellers (see too Pitcher Inn in Warren, Vt.) Chef kitchen is incredible with massive soapstone stab panels, counters and sink. The cabinets are all custom made cherry and birch. The commercial grade stove has an oversized electric oven and a small pie oven. The cooktop is gas with 4 large burners, a grill, and griddle. The stainless steel refrigerator has a freezer drawer below and french doors above. There is a large pantry with microwave. The separate family room has a 7 speaker surround-sound 9 x 16 (movie format) rear projection TV. There is a brand new sofa, love seat and ottoman. The entry hall with its alley of tree trunks leads to a grand 3 story central core lightcourt showcasing the owners' antique quit collection. One wall of the central court is a 3-story wall of (illuminated) windo

Great Log Home

We stayed after Christmas and really enjoyed the home. There was enough space for us with an area in front of the fire place for people to hang out as well as a separate TV room where you can shut the door to keep TV noise in. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The beds were comfortable and we loved the heated floors in parts of the home. Jack the owner loves his home and wants you to enjoy your stay. He will check in with you and make sure that you have everything you need.

Wonderful place, great location. Well maintained. Definitely recommend!

Had just a wonderful time here. It's a great place with fine attention to detail. The location is very convenient.

The owner is quick to respond and extremely well organized.

The beds are foam and I thought very comfortable.

The kitchen is modern with nice appliances.

Wifi moves well at 15-20Mbps. We had 10 adults and had no Internet problems.

We had a great stay and I hope to come back again.

Incredible space! Not a thought missed!

You can't even go to a luxury hotel and have them think of as many things for you as Jack has done for guests at this getaway. Details are key for a successful getaway and there are none that have been missed. EVERYTHING is documented. I did not have to call Jack a single time to figure out anything in the house. You literally can go to this place and have everything you need to enjoy yourself. Obviously bring food and stuff, let's be realistic. But the views, the new deck, the radiant heating, the steam shower, the incredibly comfortable beds... I could go on and on.

A family or a bunch of friends, regardless of your crew, will definitely be able to enjoy themselves here however you want. You will still be wowing things in this place the day you leave. Absolutely worth it. Even if minimal time will be spent in the place, it's worth having the peace of mind that someone else already did all the thinking for your lodging needs.
