About Killorglin and the Local AreaThe picturesque town of Killorglin is situated on the Ring of Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way. This vibrant town is within walking distance, being just over a mile away and contains the ruins of Castle Conway. The town is located beside the River Laune which flows from Lough Leane, one of the Lakes of Killarney. This pretty river flows through Beaufort, past Ballymalis Castle, through the town of Killorglin, and empties into the sea, first at Castlemaine harbour beside the river Maine and then out through Dingle Bay.
Killorglin is within the Reeks District tourist area, and has a great selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants. This area is known for its outdoor activities, mountains walks and water sports. The trail is very peaceful and beautiful, the round trip takes around 6 hours and involves steep climbs. Carrauntoohil is an excellent hike providing gorgeous views and great opportunity to experience the beautiful peaks of Ireland.
Cronin’s Yard and Tearooms is the traditional starting point for climbs of Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrauntoohil. This starting point is a 26-minute drive away and a pretty setting situated at the entrance to the Hag’s Glen at Mealis. Cronin’s Yard Loop walk is an 8km moderate walk climbing to a height of 300m.
