Larry and Beverly Maxwell
About Larry and Beverly Maxwell
The Maxwell family has lived on this property for the last 30+ years, taking it from a wild, thorn-covered property to a park-like setting. Its original owner, Larry's father, Rupert Maxwell, was a WWII P47 Thunderbolt fighter pilot and was shot down over Germany and held in a prisoner of war camp for one year. Rupert passed down many lessons including his love for the Lord, this property, and the hard work it takes to maintain it. Larry and Rupert built both houses, including the barn. Larry and Beverly are avid outdoorsman. We love to hunt and fish, hike, garden, cook, make soap, read, sit down by the river and swing on the porch. God has blessed us with this homestead and we would love to share this special place with you. Coming from a military family, Larry has lived in several places, while Beverly grew up and lived in Michigan. Together, we share 4 grown children and 6 grandchildren. We are laid back folks who love our quiet piece of the world.
Why Larry and Beverly Maxwell chose Pikeville
This property, our little piece of the world, is secluded enough to be a peaceful haven and yet not too far from amenities. We love it!
What makes this Cabin unique
What people say when they come here is that it is so beautiful and peaceful and that we are so blessed to be able to live here. The Valley is a historic place where Cherokee Indians once made their home until they were moved out on the Trail of Tears. The first Sheriff of Cumberland County is buried on the State property next door. The Sequatchie river originates out of the hillside nearby and runs through our property and makes a great place to cool ones feet on a hot day! Wildlife pays us frequent visits that include deer, turkeys, fox, coyote, bobcat, and many species of birds, etc. Beauty abounds in this space between the mountains and if you sit long enough or wander with a keen eye, you, too, can take in its wonders and escape the real world for a while.

Bachelorette Weekend Getaway
My bridal party and I stayed at this cozy cabin in the woods this past weekend for my bachelorette celebration. When we arrived Larry and Beverly welcomed us with open arms. Larry offered to build a fire both nights we stayed and brought us some amazing homemade sticky buns in the morning for breakfast. This property is so beautiful. So much to do and Larry and Beverly are so welcoming and helpful if you’re unsure of what to do or looking for things to do around the woods. It’s a very well kept, clean cabin. I’m ready to plan another weekend getaway in the future. Thank you so much for everything. Highly recommend this cabin for a relaxing stay away from home.
Thank you so very much! We are delighted that you and your 'girls' had a fun time, but also took the time to relax on the porch and enjoy relaxing too. Thank you for your kind review!
We decided to book a last minute getaway over Labor Day weekend, and we were delighted to find Larry and Beverly's hidden gem in Pikeville, TN. It was everything described in the listing and more. Such a quiet and calm location surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature with so much to take in on our walks through the valley.
The cabin was spotless and roomy, and Beverly had baked a delicious loaf of delicious bread to welcome us as well. The bed was comfortable and afforded us the much needed rest we were hoping to find.
Larry's knowledge about the area was a fun addition to our walks - and we were just as excited as Beverly when she found an arrowhead.
On our last night, Larry had set up a few chairs by a bonfire for us to enjoy our evening. Listening to the sounds of the fire intertwining with the sounds of the river... as we gazed up into the vast night sky full of stars...it was everything we needed and more!
Our goal was to un-plug and relax for a few days, and this location couldn't be any more perfect for that. Thanks again to our gracious hosts Larry and Beverly for taking the time to make sure everything was perfect. We will remember our time in the valley for years to come!
The perfect place to get away and relax. The cottage was clean and well maintained, and the property is beautiful. We loved watching the hummingbirds.
Thank you for your kind words. The hummingbirds are quite entertaining and we certainly do have a lot of them! Please come again!
Secluded, quiet, and peaceful
We chose the "Tranquil Cottage" to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time. Larry and Beverly are excellent hosts and made us feel welcome from the moment we drove up.
The cottage was exactly what we were looking for. Clean, charming, and private. The owners' home is next door. They were extremely respectful of our privacy but were available for anything we needed. Beverly's homemade lemon poppyseed squash bread was absolutely delicious!
The property is a natural wonderland, nestled in the hills and beside a beautiful river. There is a state park just a few hundred yards from the cottage that you can visit - including a massive cave entrance and spring. Larry graciously offered to build us a campfire one night, which was a wonderful way to end the day down by the river. We were also lucky enough to enjoy a rainy evening, sitting on the porch and listening to the thunder roll through the valley.
This is perfect couples retreat! Thank you Larry and Beverly. See you next time!
We are so grateful for kind folks such as yourselves who choose our cottage their 'getaway' and enjoy the relaxation it offers.
The Cottage is a hidden jewel nestled in the Sequatchie Valley. Larry and Beverly are the most gracious hosts. There are so many things that made our stay outstanding. The humming birds are amazing to watch, deer feeding in the yard and the sounds of the Sequatchie River make for a very relaxing stay. We highly recommend this location to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
Thank you so much for choosing our cottage to make your stay. We loved meeting the two of you and are so grateful you enjoyed our little neck of the woods!
Tranquil Valley says it all! One of the most peaceful places we have ever stayed and when you top it off with Lemon poppyseed yellow squash bread.....well let me say they almost never got rid of us. God Bless you both and Thanks again!
Thank you so very much! We love sharing our peaceful little place with others who love and seek out somewhere restful to stay. We loved meeting you both and hope you'll come again!
