Photos and Description of this Covent Garden holiday apartment

Stylish Accommodation With Many Of London's Sights Just A Short Stroll

This is a bright and comfortable one-bedroom apartment, in an unbeatable location: many of the things you'll want to do are just an easy stroll away. It sleeps up to five people, with bedroom, lounge, designer kitchen, designer bathroom, and wifi Internet.

There is a minimum stay of three nights. If there is an empty slot of 1 or 2 nights between bookings, we will accept a shorter reservation that completely fills the empty slot.

The apartment is perfect for visitors who want to be in the very centre of London, with everything in easy walking distance. It’s right inbetween Covent Garden and Soho: a 200 yards walk takes you to either. So both Covent Garden piazza and Soho’s lively Old Compton Street are at your doorstep, all teeming with people and fun day and night. Very many other places are close by; for example, the following are within five-20 minutes' easy walk: Big Ben & Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, British Museum, National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, River Thames, Southbank, St. James's Park, and 10 Downing Street. You’re also within a ten minute stroll to most of London’s theatres.

Many visitors are surprised to learn that London has been one of the world’s gastronomic capitals for some years. You are surrounded by restaurants covering an enormous variety of cuisines, and fitting every pocket. Feel like a splurge? Many of London's finest restaurants are within five minutes' walk, such as Sheekey's, The Ivy, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, and Rule's (founded in 1800, and London's oldest restaurant).

For shopping the location is hard to beat. The trendy boutiques of Covent Garden are a stone’s throw away. Within a 15 minute easy stroll you are at the big department stores of Oxford Street, the exclusive shops of Jermyn Street, and yet more trendy boutiques on Carnaby Street.

If you don’t feel like walking, public transportation is very easy. Cabs are everywhere, and if you order, they normally show up within five minutes. The tube and bus links are equally convenient and I think a lot more fun. Trafalgar Square nearby is the main hub for London buses: travelling at the front of a bus, on the top floor of a double-decker, is great. Tottenham Court Road tube station is two minutes’ walk away, connecting to Heathrow airport and the rest of London. All the main line stations are close by, including the Eurostar terminal.

The open plan living room has big windows that let in a lot of light. It has a large sofa, which converts into a very solid and comfortable king sized bed. There are antique wooden captains’ chairs, which came from a Victorian wine bar which my family used to run. The walls have pictures and paintings of my family over the last two hundred years, many of them who worked in the wine bar. As I did, when a student.

The polished granite breakfast bar seats six on stylish bar stools, and separates the kitchen from the lounge.

I cook a lot, so the kitchen is spacious and fully equipped, with a fridge, freezer, dishwasher, induction hob/stove, full sized electric oven, microwave, toaster, and a full range of cooking utensils. For seekers of their daily bread, there's an automatic breadmaker. The cutlery/silverware, plates, and glasses are of good quality.

To clean dirty clothes, there’s an efficient combined washer/dryer. It's very quiet. Several large supermarkets are nearby, open seven days. London’s best organic farmers’ market, Marylebone Farmers’ Market, is a 15 minute walk.

The bright and airy bedroom contains a double bed (54" by 74", or 135cms by 190cms). Two chests of drawers provide plenty of space for your clothes. There are hangers for things that need hanging, and a trouser press for trousers that need pressing.

The designer bathroom is accessed via the main bedroom, and has heated towel rails, sink, toilet, shower, and a large tub to luxuriate in if you feel like a long soak. There are various other knick-knacks too, like a heated mirror that doesn’t get steamed up when you take a shower.

Regarding technology, there is:

* A 31" flat screen TV with a large number of British and international channels.

* Free wifi (normally 12Mbit/sec download, 1 Mbit/sec upload).

* A 27" computer monitor that connects via HDMI--bring your own cable.

* An HP Photosmart 5515 printer/copier/scanner that connects over wifi--bring your own cartridges and paper.

There is carpeted underfloor heating throughout, which feels nice on your feet in winter.

Two guests are included in the price. For an additional fee, up to three additional guests can be accommodated: two on the comfortable sofabed in the lounge, and one on an inflatable airbed that goes on the floor beside the sofa bed. The airbed is of good quality and has a built-in electrical pump, so it can easily and quickly be deflated during the day and reinflated at night if so desired. The airbed is only provided in the case of five guests; four guests must use the main bed and the sofabed.

It’s crowded with five people, but that shouldn’t be a problem if you’re all friends or family. If you use the airbed, most guests put it aside, e.g. on top of the main bed, during the day. Alternatively, for more space during the day, you can deflate it in the morning and reinflate it at bed-time.

With a bit of fiddling, you can fold up the sofabed during the day, but most people don’t do this because they are out having fun.

Despite being in the very heart of London, the flat is quiet, and I often sleep with the windows open at night. The street gets very little traffic. All but the lightest of sleepers will get an undisturbed night’s rest, and without any need for earplugs.

The cost of public transport is very high, and you'll save a lot of money (as well as time) by staying in the centre. An off peak day ticket (for use after 09:30) on London Transport is £12.10 for zones 1-6 as of September 2016. Cabs or Ubers after midnight quickly become very expensive.

You can usually drop off luggage earlier than 3pm, provided the cleaner is there. For an additional charge, sometimes you can also have an early checkin or a late checkout. We can only confirm this a day or two before, depending on when other guests arrive or depart.

The flat is on a mezzanine level. Access for most people is no problem at all, but it’s not suitable for disabled people or for wheelchair access. To get to the flat, you take an elevator from the lobby, walk along a short corridor, and then walk up 14 short steps.

To get to the toilet/bathroom from the lounge, you pass through the bedroom. This informality is fine for family and friends, but could be slightly uncomfortable for, say, two couples who don’t know each other very well, or who have radically different concepts of personal hygiene.

The beds are firmer rather than softer. I like them this way; they say firmer beds are healthier.

Babies, even if you bring a crib, count as an additional person.

We provide two toilet rolls, so you may need to purchase additional ones during your stay, or bring additional ones with you.

A modern and stylish place in the very centre of London, with tons of things to do at your doorstep. I hope you'll come and stay!

About Sara Abraham

Londoner, went to the US to grad school at Stanford in philosophy. California girls are beautiful, they offered me a scholarship, plus had fantasies of being a philosopher, so decided to try out the place.

Instead discovered computers and mathematical logic so got diverted into research in artificial intelligence. Which people say describes me perfickly. Met some Extremely Rich and Famous people but alas their defining characteristics didn't rub off. Founded and ran an IT research company in Silicon Valley. Recently founded and established a technology museum.

Then started this holiday rental business to provide for ill-deserved retirement, assisted by friend Sara (met her in Eritrea, lovely but poorly-governed country). And Jason, Angelica, and Magally, who help with meeting guests and cleaning. And Sean and Steve and Rex, who help with maintenance.

Next project is to write essays on how technology affects humanity.

Why Sara Abraham chose Camden & Covent Garden

I like to be in the very centre of London, with the places I want to go to within several minutes' walk.

What makes this apartment unique

The flat is in a fantastic location. And, amazingly, it’s quiet.

Very central for everything in London

  • 4 of 5

This apartment is a bit smaller than we'd hoped as the picture of the bedroom makes it look very spacious. For two of us this was perfect but I wouldn't want to stay with more than three people... with the sofa bed made up there is very little living space and nowhere comfortable to sit, and no TV in the living area. The kitchen and bathroom are very nice though, good shower and nice fittings. The location is fantastic; it is so central to Covent Garden, Soho and the Theatres, it was really perfect for us in this respect.

Owner's Response: Susan, you're right, when the sofabed is open, the place becomes crowded. Most guests fold up the sofabed during the day, unless they will be out all the time. If you stow the sofabed and airbed during the day, most people will find the apartment is comfortable for five people. Thanks for drawing the lack of TV in the living room to my attention. I'll think about providing one in the future. Many thanks for staying and we hope to see you again soon. David

Perfect place for a perfect trip!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is located in a quiet street between Covent Garden and Soho, convenient to the Tube Station of Tottenham Court Road and Covent Garden. Small well-stocked with everything you need, clean and comfortable. We stayed 3 nights with a disabled person who easily had access to the apartment via the lift in this building. Easy key recovery both on arrival and departure as well as communication with the owners always available.

Recommended for those who want to enjoy a few days in this beautiful city and I hope to have the opportunity to go back there soon.

Neat and convenient

  • 4 of 5

The apartment was as per the pictures posted and overall everything was spot on. It is less than 5 mins walk from Tottenham Courts Road station.

However, there is a hassle of obtaining the key from a convenient store quite a distance away from the propert and also not informing the apartment's password beforehand (if you were to use Three mobile operator then you may have to try very hard to find the signal, otherwise you simply walk out from the building). Also, I was a little baffled to find an unflushed toilet.

Owner's Response: Very sorry about the unflushed toilet, I has passed this on to the cleaner, we slipped up here. Regarding the convenience store, we wait one hour after the time the guest expects to arrive, and after that we leave the key in the convenience store. Most guests arrive more or less on time and don't have the bother of going to pick up the keys. Also, sorry about the inconvenience you had with the weak 3 cellphone signal, it does vary between places. Thanks for staying and hope to see you again soon.--David

In addition to the famous tourist sights, there are many things for your specialized interests. For example, if you love pulling teeth, there are three museums of dentistry. As the early lexicographer Dr. Johnson said, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life!
