About the property

3 bedroom, 21/2 bath, facing the mountains, central but peaceful. Walk to shops.

The is a127m2 two floor apartment on the top third and fourth floors of the apartment house. Most of the ceilings include massive wood timbers traditional in Swiss architecture.

After leaving the lift to the 3rd floor, you enter the apartment into a lovely open plan living area with ample seating, open fireplace access to the balcony and dining area, and connected to the kitchen via a counter. There is also a WC with wash hand basin.

Upstairs are two bedrooms - one Swiss-double and one with twin beds - with between them a shower-room with a large corner bath, a separate shower, double washbasins, WC and small washing machine.

At the bottom of the stairs a door leads to a bedroom & ensuite shower room. This large room has a Swiss-double bed, CD player, TV, table, a shower room, built in wardrobes, and a visually separated area suitable for an extra child’s bed or one or two travel cots (an extra bed and a cot are available by prior arrangement).

The kitchen, conveniently separated from the living room area by a counter, has a ceramic hob, full electric oven, dishwasher, fridge, Nesspresso coffee machine, kettle, and is well stocked with cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery, glasses etc. There is a Fondue set, and a teapot and toaster. (A microwave oven is available in a cupboard if you need it.)

The dining area has a table which can seat 6 or more with the leaves extended, half the seating is traditional Swiss built in seating, and the other half chairs. There is a small sideboard, table mats, candlesticks etc.

Doors from the living room and also from the the downstairs bedroom lead to the 19m2 balcony with enjoyable mountain views, and from which also the top of the iconic Matterhorn can be seen. There is a sunbed, two tables and 6 chairs on the balcony.

The living room is furnished with two sofas and an armchair. This furniture, carpets and curtains were all new in 2012.

There is free wifi through the apartment, and the TV has many international channels including all UK terrestrial TV channels, and BBC radio, including radio 1,2,3,4.. There is a Zermatt channel which includes rotating webcam views from the high points of the area, so you can review the weather conditions before leaving home. There is also a fireplace, a CD player, and a multizone DVD player.

The two main supermarkets are also within walking distance, about 2 - 4 minutes away, important in Zermatt as there are no cars and all shopping has to be carried home.

The apartment is also within walking distance of the main station where everyone arrives (2 minutes) and Gornograt station (2 minutes, then about 45 minutes up to 3000 m) , and 10 minutes walk from Sunnega station (which whisks you underground up to 2300m in a few minutes). The stop for the free bus to Sunnega and to Klein Matterhorn (up to 3800m) gondlebahn is also 2 minutes walk (it's outside Gorngrat station.)

About Adrian.

We moved to Switzerland in 2001 and fell in love with Zermatt. In many ways, Zermatt is even more enjoyable in summer than in winter. The weather is great, the village charming, and the mountains beautiful. We also love the wild flowers and wildlife, It is not uncommon to see the small horned Chamoix (Gems in German) or much larger horned Ibex (Steinbock in German) or Maromots. Golden Eagles are reputed to be common in the Alps now, and are reputed in 2012 to have nested in the Zmutt valley. The Lammergeier (literally Lamb-vulture in German) also called Bartgeier (bearded vulture) is very rare - only about 500 pairs in the European range. But they are being reintroduced into the east of Switzerland, and I have photographed one (in spring 2012) between Zermatt and Zmutt - it is a huge bird - up to about 2.5m wingspan. The silhouette photo - it was very high - cannot be loaded onto this website, but I am happy to send to you if you are interested.

We own our apartment as our holiday home and enjoy renting it to others to enjoy too.

Why Adrian. chose Matterhorn

The quiet yet central location, with views of the mountainside make this a gem of an apartment. In this car age we forget how heavy a few bottles of wine and a shopping bag of food can be when one has to carry it far - and Zermatt is spread over quite and extensive area. Being able to pop around the corner for the bread or croissants for breakfast while the rest of the household is getting up is very pleasant and convenient. As is access to the transport systems to get up (or down) the mountains if you prefer not to walk up (or down).

Cooking at home is enjoyable. There are also more than 50 restaurants in and around Zermatt - at all price points, and also plenty of bars. Supermarket prices are as for the rest of Switzerland. There is good shopping, a small alternative cinema (try to watch one of the charming old movies about Zermatt) and (we think public) tennis courts, become ice hockey rinks in the winter months.

What makes this apartment unique

Around 29 of Switzerlands 36 mountains over 4000m occur around the Zermatt valley. And only Zermatt has the very photogenic (see if you can stop photographing it!) Matterhorn. First ascent by Whymper an Englishman, although that's a tragic story. The English association with Zermatt is a long one - visit the charming Zermatt museum, modern with a novel audio guide around old Zermatt - to understand more. There is even an English Church; St Peter's.

Ski trip Zermatt

We (family with 3 kids) enjoyed a fabulous skiing vacation in Zermatt. The Bellevue apartment is superbly located. Just 2 minutes walking distance from everything you need, shopping, restaurants, skibus and Gornergrat railway. We loved the authentic Swiss looks of the apartment, everything we needed was there. Plenty of room for relaxing drinks after a long day skiing and a cosy dining area. Adrian, the owner of the apartment is was very responsive through the booking process and provided a lot of valuable tips for a first time Zermatt-visitor. Thanks Adrian!

Zermatt as a skiing resort is unmatched. Everywhere you go is the Matterhorn as an imposing statue of nature. The views are astonishing, words are not sufficient to explain, just go there!!

Excellent apartment in a great location!

The apartment was so much better than we expected. It is situated right in the middle of Zermatt...seconds from the shops and less than a minute to the ski lift (gornegrat bahn).

It is really well equipped with everything you could need. There are three large bedrooms, one on the ground floor with its own en-suite and two upstairs which share a large bathroom. The living accommodation is large and the kitchen has everything you could need.

Adrian, the owner could not be more helpful. Arrival and check out instructions are clear and we really felt like he did everything he could to make our stay hassle free. Thanks!!!

Great location to skiing, train and downtown activities

Really nice 3 bedroom place. Great location. Comfortable furniture. Pretty well stocked kitchen. Only minor down side was they didn't provide soap or shampoo. Easy enough to address.

European self-catering apartments don't generally supply toiletries: the choice is so vast and personal. And Zermatt's supermarkets stay open late - usually to 2000 (8.00pm) - for holiday makers. There are two supermarkets less than 5 minutes walk from the apartment. Yes: easy enough to address!

Unbelievably positioned comfortable apartment.

A wonderful experience!

Our family had a really great time in Zermatt and loved Bellevue! It is a fantastic location a 5 minute walk from the train station and Gornegrat station. I have 3 small children and it was so easy to get to the pistes with all of our gear..just a hop on the ski bus (across the street from the main train station) to Sonnega or the express or just take the Gornegrat train. We took the train all the way up to the top at sunset and it was spectacular! We also loved the coop, the local supermarket, which was also only a five minute walk across the street from the train station. The appartment is so warm and cozy and spacious! My kid didn't want to leave and keep asking me when we can return!

Location, location, location!

I stayed here for a week in March 2015 with my daughter and her fiance. It was my daughter's 30th birthday and her fiance's 31st within a few days. The weather had promised to be very snowy but thankfully we had some really fine days. The apartment was so well located and for us, only being three people, it was huge. It had everything that we needed and was very quiet in spite of being just one street off the Bahnhofstrasse. Everything was very clean. The dishwasher broke down while we were there but a simple phone call to Adrian and he sent in someone to fix it on the same day. The very best thing is the location. Near Gornergrat, buses, and all the shops in the main street. Would definitely stay again if we choose Zermatt in the future. Zermatt is one of our very favourite ski resorts having such a good lift system and superlative pistes and plenty of entertainment, which is, of course, reflected in the price. Having no cars is also a great bonus.

We find the apartment equally comfortable even with 6 adults, and some guests have brought 2 children too, as other reviews report. As for costs: one gets what one pays for, as you clearly know: you could have rented a much smaller place, or one more inconveniently located or spartanly furnished, or stayed in one of the many hotels! But for me I like the freedom and space, and option of self catering, even in the Zermatt setting with, as you say so many places for entertainment, including eating! And where else provides the extensive infrastructure for getting into and around the Alps, most of it open both summer and winter. Every year there is new (expensive) investment to make our holidays more enjoyable. I think the Zermatt valley enjoys something like 29 of the 48 4000m + alpine peaks of Switzerland. According to National Geographic: "To many, Zermatt is world's ultimate ski resort. And the Zermatt ski area is the only Swiss ski resort included among the 25 best in the world. The recipe to become a top ski resort is as follows: It begins, of course, with skiing and snowboarding. Add to this a romantic mountain destination with beautiful ski slopes, shopping opportunities and the cultural aspect, and then you have the perfect ski resort according to National Geographic. Among other things, it was the international ski area with 350 km (= 217 miles) of piste, the breathtaking panorama, the highest aerial cable car in Europe to the Matterhorn glacier paradise, (3800m = 12,500ft) the culinary pleasures in more than 50 mountain restaurants and the view of the Matterhorn that convinced the editors. Zermatt, Switzerland Best For: Photographers with a taste for old-world culture and never-ending descents. Switzerland is a country of classic ski towns, but Zermatt is its crown jewel. Though surrounded by several glacier-clad peaks, everything here-the town, the skiing, the sky-is dominated by the spiking pyramid of the mighty Matterhorn, one of the most distinctive mountains on Earth."

Car: not necessary

Zermatt is THE premier resort of the Alps. The gold standard. Summer and Winter.

In summer the temperature can get up to around 30C and the mountain air, flowers and scenery are outstandingly beautiful. One can ride high, up or down, to a maximum of about12,000 ft (3800m), with three different transport systems and there are around 600km of well signposted walking routes, some away from all the lifts /underground/overground transport infrastructure.

For the more adventurous (can you walk 300m vertical in an hour, as needed, and walk for 5 hours? Do you have a 20-35 litre pack, and clothing if the weather turns bad?) the English owner, a member of the Swiss Alpine Club, can advise on making bookings at SAC mountain huts for very reasonable simple overnight accomodation, and simple meals. This is a wonderfully unique experience. Carry only your toothbrush, and bad weather gear - just in case.

For all, one can easily enjoy walking the mountains and there are plentiful places to stop for a light or not so light lunch with or without wine or beer, from simple rustic places to real gourmet.

For the less adventerous, one can get up to 3800 m (12,000 + feet) without any strenuous walking, and still enjoy many of the sightseeing benefits. June and July are best to see the mountain flowers, and by end August the nights are getting cooler - days still warmer - and winter is on the way.

May and September are rather in-between-season months (winter and summer), and the place is quieter.

October, November skiing is possible on a wider area than just the 20Km of pistes on the glaciers available in high summer.

There are no cars in Zermatt, only a few electric taxis, and a few horse drawn carriages. Helicopter tours and paragliding can be arranged. There is a creche for very young children if needed.

All visitors arrive by train, If coming by car one has to park in Taech and take the 11 minute shuttle train ride to Zermatt. If coming by train from an airport, booking your tickets before you arrive may be cheaper. The owner will assist you. From Zermatt Station it is less than a five minute walk to the apartment, and the owner provides easy to follow illustrated directions.

The apartment is very central yet faces the mountains and is quiet. All the restaurants and bars and shops are within walking distance.
