Summer Moon is a stunningly beautiful villa nestled in village rice fields 10 minutes from the cultural life of Ubud. Sensitively designed by a resident Dutch couple using local materials and techniques, this dream-getaway comfortably sleeps 6 guests (and a baby/toddler cot). All 3 bedrooms feature luxurious four-poster king-sized beds draped romantically with netting, with European mattresses and natural down feather pillows and bed covers.
From the secluded upstairs bedroom and private yoga-sunbathing terrace you will catch glimpses of Mount Agung, the sacred centre of Bali, as it drifts in and out of cloud. In the morning you will hear the quacking ducks being let out into the rice fields as the sun rises through the coconut palms which line your private river.
All rooms have ceiling fans and the Balinese alang-alang (thatched roofs) are built to maximize the natural flow of air, capturing beautiful cool breezes. One bedroom has air-conditioning if required, but we very rarely use it in this gentle climate. The three indoor-outdoor bathrooms, two with bath and double shower, are a real highlight, with beautiful local stone tiles and tropical flowers growing beside your shower. Daily fresh towels, linen and flowers add to the air of quiet luxury.
If you feel like cooking Summer Moon has a fully equipped kitchen including a vast refrigerator if you need to store special foods or medicines, and Wayan is delighted to cook in-house for guests on request.
Days pass lazily by your private pool, or on the day beds by the river. Enjoying a drink from the pool-side lounges while watching the sunset spectacle over the rice fields, followed by dancing fireflies, is time very well spent. If you want to mix with other guests in the area, there is a larger 14 metre shared pool that includes a shallow wading area and sun deck. Or you can wander the neighbouring village and fields, enjoying the relaxed, friendly ambience of village life. A local driver or taxi service is available for trips 10 minutes into town, or you can hire a motorbike, all for very reasonable rates.
Summer Moon is the realisation of one of my dreams. I live in Melbourne, Australia. Summer Moon for me is a place to relax, to unwind and recharge from the everyday pace of busy life.
Anna Phipps purchased this villa in 2013
Summer Moon offers all the benefits of exotic and tropical Bali, without the business of the beach-side location. Ubud has a focus on well-being and health offering yoga, a fabulous array of local and western foods and varied cultural activities such as Balinese dance. You will love the peace and beauty of the rice fields and watching the sunset over Mount Agung.
To watch the sunrise over the eastern side of the Villa is one of my daily rituals. This is not a party house. It is set in the village of Lodtunduh 2.5 km's south of Ubud on a rice field. Watch the locals tend to the rice, the ducks in rows quacking across the field and children fishing in the river in the afternoons. This is what makes my time in Ubud special.
I have been to Ubud about a dozen times over the past 15 years, and my travel companions have been even more over the past 35 years. We've watched it become very busy, the traffic heavy, the town has lost it's quiet spots. So we looked outside of Ubud and found this fabulous haven south of town in Lodtunduh. We rented Summer Moon Villa, which isn't this exact one but has 3 bedrooms and 3 baths, a private pool and is right on the rice padi. Very clean, the friendly and happy staff made us very tasty breakfasts every morning and the security cards were super nice and walked us to our villa when we came home after dark. We had a kitchen that we could use any time, which was great. They have teamed up with masseuses (highly recommend!) and a local chef who can come to your villa to give you a cooking class (wish we had done this). A highlight was hearing the village preparing for a ngaben (a cremation ceremony) - the singing and beleganjur music carried so well over the rice fields so we could hear the ceremony in the distance. Very nice, peaceful and beautiful villa.
We loved the villa (Summer Moon), very peaceful and quiet. The Villa was secluded but still accessable for dinners, massages and taxis. Breakfast daily was delicious! Overall the friendly and promt staff ensured we had a wonderful stay.
Being a Travel Agent I have experienced many villas and hotels and I have to say Summer Moon is my favorite. From the moment we arrived the staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. Organising us transport, in villa massage and dinners and anything else we needed. The breakfast was to die for and oh how i wish i could whip up banana pancakes and scrambled eggs that quick and tasty. Everything about the villa makes for a relaxing and secluded stay. Will definitely be recommending this to client and friends. We will be back.
I loved that the villa supplied a mobile phone making it very easy when you needed something. Even though there was a little supermarket a 15 min walk from the villa i would recommend that there was a service to pre order some grocery's to be there upon your arrival.
“We think what you do is fantastic. The staff were so helpful and we really appreciated their support. We loved watching the rice fields being planted - it was very special. And we loved the dogs popping in to say hello! ”
Thank you for your wonderful accommodation. You truly have a slice of heaven here and we all felt fortunate to enjoy it for close to a week. It's been a great time to unwind for all of us.
Our stay here was absolutely incredible. Summer Moon is stunning, from the moment we arrived we were in heaven! There was more than enough room for all 6 of us (3 couples). Summer Moon's fantastic layout even allows for you to spend time relaxing alone. The staff are incredible and so brilliantly accommodating, beyond expectation. A driver was provided whenever we needed one, although you are a great walking distance from the centre of town. The manager (Nick) is always available, and never far away should you need any advice or assistance. Thank you! We truly had the most amazing experience and look forward to planning our next trip!
