About Brenda Schaeffer

I am a semi retired author and psychologist. When not enjoying the beauty and solitude of my lake home, I have a private practice in the Twin Cities and spend time in Santa Fe, NM where my son, daughter and I own a boutique hotel.

Brenda Schaeffer purchased this guest house in 2002

Why Brenda Schaeffer chose Spooner

After travelling to China in the late 80's and seeing so many people, I was determined to purchase land. I built the main house in the early 90's and about 10 years later built the guest house, which we open up to vacation rentals. I feel in love with the land and the abundant nature. I enjoy setting on the doc or the deck and enjoy just watching nature and all her critters.

What makes this guest house unique

With 170 acres, this property is truly private and very peaceful. The stress of city life just leaves you as you watch eagles, deer, song birds, otters and turtles in their natural habitat. I have kept the lake as natural as possible and with no motor boats, it keeps things very serene.

A little slice of heaven

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 4 nights at this beautiful home that is located on a private lake outside of Spooner, WI. The home is very well maintained, clean, comfortable and has a well stocked kitchen. We enjoyed the deck that includes a gas grill that overlooks the lake. The only thing we heard when we were outside were the birds. It is so quiet and peaceful. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom upstairs is very nice with a wonderful shower. (We did not use the downstairs bathroom or the sauna.) We also loved the lavender shower gel and shampoo that was furnished. I want to try to find some to buy! We had a wonderful time. Highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet get away. You will not be disappointed.

Great place on great property!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay! The hiking trails on the property were excellent as was the private lake! The cabin itself was beautiful and exactly what we were looking for in a quick, northwoods getaway. We will definitely be back!

Well appointed

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to leave a short review on this unit. Everything inside is really nice and high-end, the photos on the site don't really do it justice. We didn't spend a lot of time outside as it was winter, but I'm sure the lake and outdoor areas are great too. Book this place, do it!!

Wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 2 nights last weekend and had a wonderful time! The cabin is gorgeous and so private. We played in the snow as the weather was perfect for spending time outdoors. We used the kitchen quite a bit and even made homemade soft pretzels. We had everything we needed....cookie sheets, parchment paper, PAM. We also used the stove, the microwave, the coffee maker. It was so nice to just spend time there with my husband, daughter, her boyfriend and his 3 kids. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a beautiful place to stay in a very quiet area.

Twin Cities

Great place.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our getaway - the grounds are lovely and private. Very quiet! We enjoyed walks every day on the groomed paths on the property.

The cabin had everything we needed from high end appliances to the utensils we needed to prepare meals. We had a short stay so didn't need the washer and dryer, but on a longer trip would have been glad for that convenience. We took advantage of the fireplace on a cool fall evening and watched the stars from the deck.

It should be noted that the second bathroom is downstairs and thru the garage. Maybe not a great option in the middle of the night, but it wasn't an issue for us as we only needed the main bathroom.

We would certainly rent this great space again. Thanks!

Great first time in Northwoods!!

  • 5 of 5

Visiting with my husband and three boys (13,10,8) was an awesome experience!! The lake was peaceful and beautiful but also provided hours of fun with swimming and using the canoe!! Our Standard Poodle loved the water and running around!! Our 2nd day in the boys asked if we could visit next summer!! The cabin is very well cared for and comfortable! With the deck being elevated to bugs were not bad at all as we had expected!! Being able to eat out on the deck looking over the forest and lake was great! Thanks for renting this great place!! (The only thing that could make it even better would be a new mattress in the bedroom that overlooks the lake--it seems to be broken down in the middle)
