About Silvia

We are a canadian/german family and this is our holiday home in London. We live and work in Singapore and our families are in Toronto and Frankfurt, our friends are living all over and that is why London makes a good middle ground for meeting up with everyone. We spend many memorable times together here in London, we all enjoy tremendously what this city has to offer. We have been holiday renting via VRBO/HomeAway since early 2012 and hope our visitors will find the same enjoyment and can make happy memories in staying at our place in London.

Silvia purchased this apartment in 2009

Why Silvia chose London

We like this neighbourhood and the period buildings with their private garden squares. We loved this flat and knew this was it the minute we walked in - the proportions, big windows, high ceilings, period features, a gentleman owner who had kept it immaculate - the sale was agreed in a day. We had been coming to stay in Kensington&Chelsea since the 1990'ies and have friends who live in this neighborhood or else own a second home here. And we wanted to be able to spend more time in London. We feel familiar, safe and comfortable and we like the convenient location and we like to walk - which we never do much in Singapore. I like to walk up to High Street Kensington or down to the Kings Road to meet friends for a coffee or lunch and a bit of shopping. Or just pop around the corner to a cafe or a pub to meet for a coffee or drink on short notice. I'll have a walk to visit my favourite, the Victoria & Albert Museum, just by myself. If I feel like going for a power walk or son/husband feel like a jog, we are at the Hyde Park in a few mins. In summer we take a picnic and sit on the sun chairs watching everyone enjoying a relaxing time, and there's always something going on in the Park. This neighbourhood is very cosmopolitan and the South Kensington weekend market is a piece of little Paris - oh the food! I think London is a walking city and being in this location you never miss a car. If we need to get anywhere beyond walking distance the tube is 4 mins away or a taxi available outside the front door. But, our flat is our second home, it certainly has the ambience and comfort to also enjoy just staying in, relaxing and have the world go by. We feel it really offers us a reprieve from the tropics and busy daily life in Singapore.

What makes this apartment unique

We love the generous sense of space, the high ceilings, period fire place, stuccoed ceilings, chandeliers, window to the quiet court yard in the bed room. Being able to open the double doors between lounge and bedroom to open up the space, it is a comfortable and inviting space and has a good ambiance. Our art work and decorative pieces had been with us many years or were additions from more recent travels, so it feels like our second home, not just a pied-a-terre. We have enough space to share a social week end with entertaining friends or enjoy some quiet, relaxation time after a busy day bustling about in the galleries, museums etc. We love the 'holiday size' of the apartment, big enough not to feel too crowded with four people, but small enough not to worry too much about all the household chores to keep it tidy and clean.

Fantastic location for a relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband, son and I had a wonderful, relaxing stay in this beautiful apartment. We wished to be within walking distance of Imperial College London and this location was ideal - easy access by car (outside of the congestion charge zone) and close to a tube station but on a nice, quiet road. Supermarkets were close by (Sainsburys, Waitrose and Tesco Express) and it was an easy and fairly quiet 15 min walk to Kensington High Street.

The apartment has easy access with just a few steps up to the front door and was extremely spacious. The kitchen was fully equipped for meal preparation and there were also supplies of essential ingredients - tea, coffee, sugar, spices, etc. It was lovely to be able to return to a large lounge to relax at the end of the day.

Booking was quick and easy with the owner replying promptly to any queries and also checking that everything was to our satisfaction after we had arrived. Check in/check out was straightforward.

We would not hesitate to return to this lovely apartment.

Lovely flat in great location.

  • 5 of 5

The flat was adequate space for our family of four (13 and 15 year old kids). The second room with the daybed is tiny. The couch in the living room was comfortable for the fourth sleeper. The galley kitchen is well equipped, although we didn't end up cooking much with all the eating establishments in the area.

The location is perfect, a short walk from Gloucester station and the grocery store. Nice neighborhood.

Silvia, the owner, was great to work with. There was a greeter waiting for us at the flat when we arrived to orient us. And she let us store our luggage in the flat after checkout so that we could hang out in the city longer before our flight out.

All in all, a lovely apartment and a nice stay. Would recommend!

Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Silvia's place is inviting, well-equipped and in a wonderful location. Access to two tube stops and many grocery stores can't be beat. Since we tend to cook while traveling, it was important for the kitchen to have all of the amenities we need. Silvia didn't disappoint.

As a family of three, we look for a place with enough space to have personal space yet not feel to large. Silvia's is a nice balance.

Can't imagine a disappointed rental with this place.

Wonderful apartment & location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fantastic week at Silvia's apartment. It was our first visit to London, the apartment was conveniently located near a Tube station and the apartment itself was gorgeous. We are a family of 4 with 2 teen daughters...renting an apartment instead of 2 hotel rooms was a much better choice. Silvia was wonderful to work with, and made sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely stay here on our next visit to London!

Owner's Response: Dear K. and family, I am delighted you all enjoyed staying at our home in London and had such a good first trip. And thank you very much for your compliments - I do try and make it welcoming, after all, I spend quite a few weeks a year there myself and like my creature comforts. Please come again - London is worth more than one trip! Best regards Silvia

Fantastic and Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

My husband, son and I spent an amazing week in Silvia's beautiful apartment. The apartment is in a great spot with Earls Court and Gloucester Road tube stations within a 5 minute walk. It's a perfect spot to walk to the parks, Kensington High Street and the amazing museums of Kensington. There are plenty of nice restaurants to choose from in South Ken as well as a Waitrose and Sainsburys.

Silvia's apartment is in a very secure building. We were met on time by the greeter who arrived bearing wine and chocolates (yum!) and showed us how everything in the apartment worked. The apartment is spotlessly clean and comfortable and has so many touches to make you feel like you are staying in a home and not a rental apartment. It is the perfect place to unwind after a busy day exploring. The kitchen has all the appliances needed to prepare a meal as well as condiments etc. If you want to eat out, it's an easy walk to local restaurants and pubs. There are loads of London books in the apartment as well as Silvia's own tips and recommendations.

We have stayed in apartments in South Ken before, but this one was exceptional and we would not bother looking at others were we to return.

Thank you Silvia for sharing your beautiful apartment with us and for your prompt and easy communication throughout the process.

We hope we will be back!

Owner's Response: Dear Nico, thank you very much for your fantastic review. I am always so pleased when my guests enjoyed their stay as much as you did. Since it is a second home for us I hoped we set it up so that our guests feel the same comfort as we do. Glad too that you liked our neighbourhood and what it has to offer. The convenience of all that there is to discover nearby and getting easily to venues elsewhere in London. Our neighbourhood restaurants, pubs, cafes as well as the supermarkets and public transport is a big plus for us too, especially in winter and not having a car, getting around is never a problem. So thanks again and please do come and stay again. Best Regards Silvia

Peaceful Comfort

  • 5 of 5

A wonderfully comfortable flat in a perfectly peaceful location. Having lived in London and now returning frequently for business and pleasure, we have had many holiday rental experiences. Silvia’s flat was neat and tidy with everything we needed to feel right at home. All our favourite London locations were either an enjoyable walk, convenient tube or taxi ride away. There aren’t many holiday rentals we’d definitely book again but this lovely little flat ticked far too many boxes and hence we’d love to return. Thank you Silvia for making it such a pleasant stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your most wonderful review. I am so pleased you found our home so very agreeable and happy too, when it is appreciated as much as we do ourselves. It makes a stay in London the more memorable when after a days activities one returns home with ease and then is able to relax and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere. I very much hope to be able to hist you again in the future, Best Regards Silvia
