Only 15 minutes away from Bar Harbor, this waterfront suite combines the finest of Maine waterfront vacation rental opportunities with the beauty of a real Maine working harbor location. Lovely, fully equipped, waterfront studio cottage, with kitchen & private deck right near the water. It has fantastic views of Southwest Harbor, sunsets beyond compare and the mountains of Acadia National Park. First built as a boathouse in the 1850's on Clark Point in Southwest Harbor, the original shingle style house maintains its 19th century charm and welcoming Down east appearance.
Property has been lovingly transformed over the past century into a beautiful cottage perfect for a hideaway or honeymooners.
You may not be a honeymooner but you will feel like one here at The Deck House
This place is so unique charming and has out of this world views. We spent hours sitting on our deck watching the picturesque harbor with the brightly colored sail and lobster boats coming and going. The unit is well equipped and spotless with large windows and very comfortable bed. This is a great place
This beautifully decorated cottage sits above the harbor in Southwest Harbor and has a fantastic pine tree growing around it. The views are spectacular and you really feel like you are in Maine. The unit is well equipped and private, has WIFI and cable TV. The bed is comfy and the cottage is spotless. In the early morning the sunrise lights up the harbor and reflects on the beautifully colored lobster boats. The sunset is fantastic as well. This was our first visit and will not be our last. We have laready booked next year.
Where do I start? If you enjoy georgeous views of a quintessential Maine harbor filled with colorful lobster boats, beautiful sunsets and quaint comfort you will love this place. This cottage though on the cozy side has the feeling of being in a tree house over the water. A pine tree actually grows thru the deck. The place is spotlessly clean and has big windows on two sides for a very open feel. The deck is spacious and private with comfortable chairs and small dining table. The bathroom has just been redone and has a sky light that makes showering fun. The kitchen is compact but has a full size refrigerator and stove with oven. The linens are of high quality (more like an inn than a vacation rental). The unit has original art, wifi and a flat screen TV. You won't watch a lot of TV as you will be spending most of your time on the deck watching the lobster and sail boats passing by. Having coctails at sunset on the deck became our nightly tradition, followed by a stroll to the center of town for a great dinner, ice cream or a lobster next door. Southwest Harbor is THE place to stay while visiting Acadia having everything you could want including access to the park right at your fingertips. The owners also have an inn across the street and even invited us for breakfast one morning which was a nice touch. They are warm and most helpful in planning activities during your stay. The cottage is small but is one of the most unique and memorable places we have ever stayed and we travel a lot.
Outside of the fact that this is one of the smallest studios we have ever stayed in. Most motel rooms are bigger than this. However, we adjusted by bringing in egg crates from the car for stroage and shelf space.
There was no strainer for pasta and there were no pot holders.
All in all, it is a great place to stay. Just not for a long time or for large people. I don't see how anyone of any size could even sit on the toliet or get around the kitchen.
That said, the view was great and it was very entertaining to watch the action in the harbor.
