We arrived in Rome and Matteo helped arrange a driver from the train station. That was helpful since it had started to rain and we had lots of luggage. The apartment was renovated and lovely. Spacious with 3 bedrooms and three bathrooms. One shower was very small. There was no soap so bring your own amenities or buy from local store down the street. The air conditioning was great especially since it was around 88-90 degrees and humid out. The location was
Fantastic. So close to the Vatican which is crazy crowded but after 6:00 the area is quieter and the locals are out. Local restaurants were great and not expensive.
We did have a few issues. The beds were not that comfortable and I had to switch my bed with my son because I couldn't sleep in it. I did notify Matteo who said he would rectify this for next customer. I must say that all the beds were just average comfort. We also only received one towel per quest for three nights. So ask for more if that isn't enough or you can wash. Lastly this Homeaway was the only one we used that required a large security deposit and required payment in Euro upon arrival. We did receive security deposit back in cash the day we left. All in all a very pleasant stay. Would have loved to give it 5 stars but the beds were not that comfortable to warrant the highest rating.
We stayed in the property as part of a family vacation with our 4 teen and adult children. The communication before and during the stay was great, and despite a mix up on the payment terms (cash at check in) the owner and staff were accommodating and understanding. Transportation from FCO was arranged for us and was perfect as the driver was able to call ahead and we met the rep who showed us around the apartment just as we arrived on a hot Rome afternoon in August.
The apartment is very clean and cozy and has a modern feel to it, perfect for our kids with nearly all of the features in good working order. Despite a few over-due maintenance issues we were all happy with the apartment. Worth noting for fellow Americans the term "clothes dryer" in this case means a clothes line type device, not a tumble dryer - not so much of an issue in sunny Rome, but a surprise none the less. TV in every room was great and Internet was speedy and fairly reliable giving the apartment a more hotel like feel. However, bring along your toiletries and a few things from the pantry to avoid another surprise - yes this was our first VRBO rental! - alas a full service market just around the corner provided all the spices, soaps, etc. that we needed. The layout of the 3 bedrooms was perfect for our family and with the large kitchen and living room area we never felt crowded - a welcome upgrade from the typical hotel stay.
It was great to be able to have cold drinks in the fridge after a hot day of tourist activities, and the location is perfect for seeing the Vatican - an easy 5-10 minute walk. And with the Metro just a short walk away on the same street as the apartment, the remainder of Rome is easily accessible or a taxi from the Pantheon area was about 20 Euro. The neighborhood surrounding the apartment was wonderful, with great cafes, restaurants, and Gelateria to keep you nourished and refreshed. We loved the little restaurant just a couple doors down "Pizza and Pollo" - they were friendly and welcoming and the food was unpretentious and fantastic and the ability to sit outside and enjoy a great meal helped make the trip for us.
We felt like we were staying in the home of a friend, with wonderful accommodation and a professional approach to business. We'd stay again if we were in Rome and I'm telling all my friends to do the same the next time they visit this amazing city.
Candia House was a lovely place to stay while in Rome. We had a party of 8 adults who fit comfortably in the house. My son and girlfriend used the pullout sofa in the "living room" which essentially converted to a 4th bedroom for them. The apartment was spotless and very comfortable. The air conditioning was very refreshing after walking around in the Rome heat all day. It is in a very safe building and in a nice area that is only 2 short blocks to the Vatican entrance. There was a metro stop (Cipro) that was about 3 blocks away that made it very easy to get to some key locations such as the Spanish Steps and Colosseum. There are plenty of great cafes and restaurants in the area around the apartment. Often, we would just walk around and found many selections of places to eat. We also found an ATM machine across the street that was handy. There is a small kitchen that we used every morning for breakfast and there is a nice market around the corner. Matteo was nice enough to leave us some Nespresso pods that we used every day. It was nice to eat breakfast and some snacks in the apartment and not have to go searching for a cafe or restaurant for every meal. There is also a small washer for clothes (no dryer though) which we could have used some instructions in English. We figured it out using Google Translate! We used the driver arranged by Matteo which was very helpful since we had never been to Rome. Overall, a wonderful Rome apartment. Thank you Matteo
Rush to stay at this property! It is beautifully renovated into a cozy, spacious retreat when visiting Rome. My family of 6 stayed here and we liked the apartment so much we didn't want to leave! The air conditioning works well, there is a large living room to relax in, a large kitchen and three bedrooms where everyone felt like they had enough space to sprawl out. The washrooms provide all the amenities and are large. The wifi works well.
The apartment is centrally located.
The owners provide the basic amenities like soap in the washrooms and extra toilet paper. This means a lot to me as we stayed in some homes where you couldn't get comfortable without shopping first.
The owners have a rental property all figured out, and I highly recommend choosing this property.
My family of 8 spent 3 great nights here. The apartment is large and had been recently remodeled. It had plenty room for the 8 of us. The location could not have been much better. It was a 5 minute walk to the front of the Vatican. Many shops and places to eat close by. The managers were very professional and terrific to work with. The apartment is a winner.
3 bedroom/3 bath easily sleeps 6-9 people. Modern, clean, just as billed in description. 2 blocks from metro stop, 2 blocks from Vatican. 2 supermarkets were 1 block away. Excellent bakery 1 block away. Matteo arranged our airport transfers. This is great for families or group of friends. Well equipped kitchen where we had many of our meals. Apartment is located on the 5th floor-there is a small elevator. Would definitely stay there again and highly recommend for anyone traveling to Rome/Vatican.
Candia House is located in the heart of Rome, the Vatican, a few steps from the metro 'A' (Ottaviano), and less than a hundred meters from the Vatican Museums, the neighborhood as well as the headquarters Papale, is famous for its shops, restaurants, bars and pubs that make the 'Prati District' one of the most sought after and active in Rome.
A few steps from the house in just 5 minutes pleasant walk, you will arrive practically in the heart, (Via del Corso, Piazza del Popolo, Piazza di Spagna, Via dei Condotti, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Piazza Venezia ...) You'll be then to choose the beauties of Rome, which are therefore within reach of Candia House.
