Great cottage for a couple. Very quiet and private. Bocce court, outdoor grill and a large screened porch make relaxing easy. The cottage is located adjacent to Lamoine State Park and is one mile to the town park at Lamoine Beach. Kayaks and boats are easily launched at either location. Many outdoor activities and sight seeing trips are easily acessed, including Acadia National Park and the less traveled downeast coastal areas. Excellent dining and shopping are close by in Ellsworth. The owners live nearby and are always available if needed. Please read our Homeway reviews, people love the cottage and the location.
We are Eric and Diane and have lived together in a 1790's farmhouse on our Lamoine property for 15 years. The cottage was built in 2005. We both work locally, Diane is a nurse mid-wife at our local hospital and Eric is a tennis teaching professional. We love to hike, kayak and garden in the summer months.
We love our cottage in the woods and spend many nights there when we can. A great friend of ours built the cottage with lumber from our property and there is a lot of love built in. Our home and the cottage are located on a large piece of undeveloped land that has been in Eric's family for 40 years.
A great cottage to spend the week or long weekend. My husband and had a great stay for our anniversary. Great craftsmanship and great hosts. Couldn't ask for more!
We enjoyed our stay very much! We enjoyed making our meals and the fire in the wood stove! Thank you Eric and Diane for sharing your cottage, it was a wonderful vacation! Very convenient to Acadia and the nice state park nearby.
"Up Back Cottage" in Lamoine, ME is the perfect little cabin in the woods. It is located within a,short drive of Acadia, Lamoine State Park, Lamoine Beach, Ellsworth (groceries), Bar Harbor and some great places to eat. It is rural but not desolate. It is also the only cabin on the property unlike rows of other cottages and cabins closer to Mount Desert Island. The cabin is hand-crafted from rough lumber and has many unique details. There is a bathroom with a shower, a kitchen with large refrigerator and a gas stove (no microwave), a dining area, a couch with a wood stove, and sleeping loft with a ladder and a fan. There's no air conditioning, however, we were there during a heat wave, but didn't need the fan at night. There is no wifi, but we were able to use our mobile phone internet with no problem. Outside, there is a gas grill and a small paved parking area. We appreciated and used the suggestions for places to eat and things to do from Eric, the owner. Overall our stay at was just what we had in mind.
Absolutely thrilled with our week-long stay at Upback Cabin -- it could not have been any better... Weather was glorious the first five days and the location was a perfect starting point for exploring Acadia, Schoodic Peninsula and ferrying to Swan's Island for a bike ride. We welcomed an overcast two days at the end of our stay, giving us an excuse to simply chill and fully appreciate Upback's coziness and fine craftsmanship. Only downside was middle of night ladder climbs to visit the bathroom but even that well worth watching the moon rise at the head of our very comfy bed. While I had anticipated spending much time reading on the screened-in porch, I actually found the dining nook to be my favorite -- the large bay window immersing you in the woods surrounding the cabin -- woods we much enjoyed walking in as well... Thank you, Eric, for sharing Upback -- we hope to be back!
This cabin is absolutely perfect for a relaxing getaway! We stayed for a week in the beginning of June and had a wonderful time. It is quiet, comfortable, and private. It has the perfect amount of living space for two people. It's a perfect distance away from the hustle and bustle of bar harbor, we took many trips to the town and the park for the day. It was so calming to come back to the cabin to unwind at night. Eric and Diane are so great and very welcoming! We cannot wait to book it again for next year!
This little cabin is quaint, beautifully crafted, cozy and functional. I was provided towels and bedding, all very comfortable. It is very private surrounded by woods but within a comfortable 20 minute drive to Acadia which is what I came to explore. I also found many areas of beauty within a stones throw of the cabin itself thanks to the owner. Would highly recommend. I was off the grid re: WiFi which was find with me, I just wish I had brought something to play music and to watch a movie once.. Thanks for such a pleasant vacation.
Cottage is located adjacent to Lamoine State Park. 400 yards to dock and surrounding shoreline. Peninsula and road end 1 mile away at Lamoine Beach. Both offer shore and beach access, picnic areas, boat ramps, and rest rooms. State park has great play ground and dock area. Fresh water swimming 1 mile thru woods or road. Lots of walks and all still quiet and simple. Easy access to Acadia, Downeast, and Ellsworth.
