Riverfront cottage located on the St. Lawrence River in Cape Vincent NY. Quaint riverfront cottage has 2 bedrooms, plus a pull out couch to sleep 6 comfortably. There is a large covered deck which allows you to stay out of the sun if you wish or still be outside on that occasional rainy day. A washer and dryer in the cottage make long-term rental an excellent convenience. Enjoy spectacular sunsets over the river on the lawn or on the large covered deck with views of Carleton and Wolfe Islands. There is also a deck over the water to have drink and enjoy refreshing river breezes. Approximately 70 feet of river frontage allows for excellent swimming and fishing. The water is shallow by the shore and gradually gets deeper.The river bottom at the shore is flat bedrock which is great for kids (nicknamed "Mermaid Rock" by a previous guest), easy on the feet and great for just sitting and cooling off!
Enjoy what the 1000 Islands region has to offer. The St Lawrence River is known for some of the best freshwater fishing in the United States. Annual events in Cape Vincent include the French Festival and 4th of July Celebration. A quick trip down the road is Clayton which hosts the annual Wildlife and Decoy show, The New York State Food and Wine Festival , the annual Thousand Islands Boat Show, as well as antique and craft shows. You can also take a day trip to nearby Alexandria Bay for a visit the historic Boldt Castle or Singer Castle, take a boat tour of the Island Mansions or participate in the annual Pirates weekend. An inexpensive ferry ride stopping at Wolfe Island will bring you to Kingston Ontario for a fantastic day trip. Locally, a wine tasting tour is a great way to spend an afternoon. The region has numerous outstanding wineries including the Cape Winery, the 1000 Islands Winery, and Coyote Moon just to name a few.
Boating on the St Lawrence river is legendary. Take the 35 minute boat ride Tibbetts Point Lighthouse in Cape Vincent where the St Lawrence River and Lake Ontario meet. Other popular boating destinations that are close by for swimming include Potter's Beach on Grindstone Island, Dodge Bay and Sand Bay on the Cape Vincent mainland (both very close by) and the bay at Picton Island. Along the way you will pass many islands and coves if you want to anchor and swim with few (if any) other boats in the area. Carleton Island is popular with boaters and is the main view from the Cottage. Visit North Bay on Carleton Island where the historic British Fort, Fort Haldimand, once stood in the late 1700's and early 1800's. You can also see the remains of the Carleton Island Villa, a remnant from the gilded age of castles here in the Thousand Islands (late 1800's-early 1900's).
