About Felicia Hulme-Beaman

Mount Coggill was rebuilt in 1999-2002 by two musicians. The main barn building was intended as a performance space. We lived in it for 3 years before we ‘interfered’ with it as it is such a beautiful building. And so the upstairs, which was one big performance space, is now divided into two good sized double bedrooms and a further floor or mezzanine is above these two rooms. It still leaves a spacious balcony area to sit and relax. We were very careful to carry out our alterations to blend into the existing building. Helen Dillon helped us to develop the garden. She advised us to create the patio and decking area outside the kitchen to bring the house more out to the garden. She was very keen not to change too much and to keep the wildness of the surrounding grassed areas and flower beds. At the very end of the house is a large room which was built by the previous owners as a recording studio. This we have made into a separate, self-contained dwelling for ourselves and so we are on hand for any queries or help that may be required. Mount Coggill is situated on the Kilkenny Carlow boarder and quite close to Wicklow. All these counties are renowned for scenery, river and hill walks, their art and crafts with world famous festivals in many fields. We enjoy all of these amenities and we can offer information to those staying at Mount Coggill.

Why Felicia Hulme-Beaman chose Griffinstown

Mount Coggill is a very unusual and beautiful house. It is included in Grand Designs (Trade Secrets section). It is a house where people just want to sit and relax and enjoy the beauty of the house and the surrounding scenery. Nearby are the picturesque small towns of Graiguenamanagh and Borris with the beautiful River Barrow. The historic Borris House is the seat of the descendants of the Kings of Leinster. Also in Borris is the award winning restaurant and hotel - The Step House. Mount Coggill is convenient for New Ross, Kilkenny, Carlow, Thomastown, Inistioge and many other local places of interest.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The house is a most relaxing space to be in. It lends itself, particularly, to groups of people as there are 5 areas in which people can sit together or sit alone to read or listen to music and yet still be in company. It is a very secluded and private house, off the beaten track. But within 30 minutes, you can be in Kilkenny City with its medieval buildings, National Craft Gallery, theatre, cinema, and a choice of good restaurants. Carlow Town with its Saturday Farmers Market, New Ross and the Dunbrody Famine Ship, JFK Homestead and Arboretum and Ros Tapestries and the Hook Peninsula with sandy beaches for swimming.

Beautiful quirky house in the country

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I traveled to Ireland with our 2 adult son's and spouses. We arrived at Mount Coggill and were greeted by Felicia who was very warm and welcoming. The drive to the house was magical, with foliage covered walls and beautiful scenery. The home was well equipped and very spacious for everyone to have their own space. The yard and patio table were perfect for a nice BBQ. We all loved the home very much and would have loved to have stayed longer. Thank you for sharing your home with us Felicia!

Stunning house in a gorgeous setting!

  • 5 of 5

Myself and a group of friends stayed in Mount Coggill for a weekend and such a lovely time. We were met by Felicia and Roland who are great hosts and gave us a tour of the house. The house is stunning. It is a mixture of vast spaces with enormous windows giving beautiful views of the surrounding countryside mixed with cosy little areas perfect for curling up with a book and a glass of wine. The bedrooms are all spacious and very comfortable. Downstairs there is a bathrooms and a toilet with the upstairs offering another larger bathroom with an enormous double shower. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need and Felicia and Roland had left everything we needed for a tasty breakfast in the fridge.

All in all I couldn't recommend Mount Coggill enough for anyone looking for a relaxing stay in the country. 5 stars!

Mount Coggill is a lovely place to holiday and relax in. It is a very interesting, beautiful house noted for its architectural merit. However, it is not suitable for young children as there are design features which could be dangerous - i.e. open plan staircase, balconies and a pond outside. Beautiful, panoramic scenery of mountains and hills. Medieval town of Graiguenamanagh 10 minutes drive on beautiful river Barrow. Kilkenny city 35 minutes drive with theatre and cinemas, Thomastown 20 minutes drive, there is all year round art and music with many internationally rated festivals. Locally many historic sites, craft workshops, archaeology. Carlow and Kilkenny garden trails nearby. It is very convenient to the whole South East of Ireland. Award winning restaurant - The Step House - just 10 minutes drive away. Golf courses nearby, including Mount Juliet World Golf Championship course. Fishing on the Rivers Barrow and Nore. 20 minutes drive to New Ross and then easy access to beaches on the Hook Peninsula with its ancient Light House.
