About this property

Holiday home by the sea

The Lakeside Vacation House is a short walk to Lake Earl, the Lake Earl Wildlife Refuge, and is considered one of the more scenic areas in Del Norte County. On the property you will commonly see deer in the back yard, families of quail, and occasionally a coyote or bear.

Our facility is situated on 4+ acres, offers a fully furnished house that can sleep eight people, a well stocked kitchen, onsite laundry facilities, off-street parking, self checkin via lock box code, and a number of other amenities, such as bath robes, extra pillows, an electric hair dryer, and a vehicle battery charger.

As far as the condition of the house, the carpet in the living room is new and was installed in June 2017 approximately. All other carpets were professionally cleaned in June 2017 except an area rug in rm 3. The area rug in rm 3 was professionally cleaned earlier in 2018. On 07-21-2018 a departing guest reported that a venetian blind in room 3 broke. As a result housekeeping has temporarily installed a curtain in one of the windows until we can acquire a new metal venetian blind for room 3.

We offer a well stocked kitchen and refrigerator. Food in the refrigerator is for guest use. Fishing poles near the front door are also for guest use. The kitchen closet marked "manager's closet" is for the housekeeper. Although we keep the kitchen and house quite clean, an occasional daddy long leg spider and Argentine ants show up. Our policy is to locate any spiders outside the house after each house cleaning. Additionally we treat the inside of the house with lemongrass oil to combat the ants, and outside the house we use liquid ant bait made from Borax (hyper borate) and sugar water.

With respect to the bathroom, it is small and dated, but we are hoping to renovate the bathroom and utility room after we build a new storage building and housekeeper residence. This order of development is required because of needed storage space that needs to be created before updating the main house.

Outside the main house are two somewhat dilapidated storage buildings and a camp trailer that we are attempting to fully renovate, and paint. The camp trailer was recently acquired and we plan on completely restoring it. It will act as temporary interim emergency housing for one of our housekeepers until such time that the new storage building and housekeeper residence is complete. We will be getting rid of the two storage buildings after the new building is complete, and then turn attention to updating and increasing the size and capacity of the bathroom in the main house.

The main house is heated with a combination of oil filled electric radiators and wall heaters. Individual oil filled electric radiators are present in each room except the kitchen which is heated by an electric wall heater. The living room has both an electric wall heater as well as an oil filled electric radiator.

The house offers a variety of and types of beds. Rms 1 & 2 have a firm bed, while rm 3 has a pillow top, the living room has a twin size adjustable memory foam day bed, and the sofa bed is a queen size sofa bed. Guest who do not like a firm bed are likely to be more comfortable in Rm 3 or the living room. Below is a more definitive description of what is in each bedroom.

Unexpected to say the least
The description of the property location in the profile is false, it says "Holiday home by the sea" Its not by the sea, Its by a lake. The host would email a new code almost everyday and it became a little unsettling. It is clear that the property is set up to accomadate multiple bookings unless you "book the whole place". The place was unlocked when I arrived and almost all the windows were unlocked as well. When we arrived there was a person walking from the house into a trailer on the property. My children were very uncomfortable staying here because a light on the side of the house kept turning on. There were large cobwebs incorners and just didn't have a good feeling staying here. The description of this place has clearly not been updated for a while and there was no deadbolts on the doors to ensure someone else wouldn't enter the property. We stayed on night and I would never stay here again. Almost just decided to leave. Has potential be needs major security check and a good cleaning and maybe not so many odd labels on every surface of the place. (if you wear shoes, I will walk on your grave, and If you smoke I will assume you are on fire and put you out?)

Great weekend retreat.
Place was clean and in a convenient location to get to the river or shopping. Could use a couple of high ball and wine glasses.
