Why Rachel Ivers chose Morillon
We love this area as it is 'authentically French', as well as stunningly beautiful. Although it has the third largest ski network in France (Grand Massif), ski passes are not as expensive as many of the other large resorts. The area is excellent in Summer too with an exhausting array of activities available. Being less than an hour from Geneva airport, the transfer is short and its ideally situated for long weekends too.
What makes this Apartment unique
This is our home from home and a wonderful escape from busy everyday life. The beautiful and peaceful surroundings are incredible. You can easily forget you are only 5 minutes drive from the local amenities. The view from the garden is simply stunning and we can sit for hours taking in the beauty that surrounds us (even longer if we've got the BBQ going in Spring/Summer). Chez Amis was lovingly restored by an Englishman who kept the Savoyade style of thick farmhouse walls and pretty shutters that help promote a good nights sleep. He used good quality materials and fittings for his restoration, including a cozy wood burning fire. We have kept that style and feel with our furnishings. Put simply : We love it!

Comfortable and well-equipped apartment
We had a great week here in the summer. There’s loads to do nearby and the apartment is comfortable and well equipped. The host was really helpful and friendly. A lovely place.
There is indeed so much to do in the Valley and mountains in the Summer, I'm glad to hear that you were able to enjoy some of the activities and thought our place was lovely. You are welcome back anytime.
Fabulous - we will be back!
We had a brilliant time during our stay. The apartment itself is great. Bright and homely, it was equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed relaxing there in between trips and the beds were super comfy. We felt very at home.
We also loved relaxing in the garden and barbecuing whilst enjoying the fabulous views of the nearby mountain ranges.
The area itself is brilliant and the property is ideally positioned. We had easy access to restaurants, bakeries and shops. We went on a number of walks and enjoyed cycling as well as swimming in a nearby lake.
There was so much to do we definitely plan on being back sometime soon.
We're delighted that you enjoyed the mountain views while BBQ'ing outside and relaxing in the garden. Sounds like you were very active cycling, walking and lake swimming. Thanks for saying the beds are comfy, we tend to sleep really well when we are there (also due to the shutters which can offer complete blackout for lie-ins).
Lovely stay in Morillon
We were really impressed with the service and communication from the owner from first booking and very impressed with the HomeAway app. The apartment was easy to find with the directions and a 15 min walk into the village. We had a couple of issues which the owner Rachel was quick to reply to text message. We loved our holiday. We would highly recommend Parc Du Merlet an hours drive and a steep walk but the views of Mount Blanc are stunning. We also hired bikes and our son used the new bike track at the lake in Morillon. It is definitely a holiday we will do again in a few years time again.
We are so glad your family had a great time. Our son went on the new Pump Track at Lac Bleu and loved it - we were there nearly everyday! We also did some downhill mt biking from the top of the chairlift in Samoens and Les Carroz. Thanks for the tip about visiting Parc du Merlet, we may try that next year. Hope you can visit again one of these years.
Summer haven in the mountains
We adored every minute of staying in this place - wonderful location, well equipped, cosy and clean home. Excellent communication with owners... couldn’t have asked for anything better. We’ve fallen in love with the area!
Thanks for the kind words Sarah, we're delighted that you and your family loved the area - the Giffre Valley is quite the hidden gem for those of us living in London. Chez Amis would love to welcome you back in the future. I hope you got the baseball cap that was posted back to you.
Morillon was fab
We had a wonderful time staying at Chez Amis. The weather was fantastic, and the chalet was perfect. It was cool, clean and very comfortable. There is so much to do in the area and we particularly loved the lake in the village to swim in as it has a paddling section and we had two toddlers with us. There was plenty of advice and information provided at Chez Amis and the neighbours were extremely helpful too! We walked to the bakery every morning, walked along the river, walked up to a viewing point, went to Lake Annecey for a day and swam lots! Never been to the Alps before so we will certainly be back again!!! Thank you so so much!
We are so glad to hear you had a wonderful time. Sounds lovely that you got to swim in the Lake and to walk each morning to get bread and croissants - we do the same when we go. You are welcome to visit Chez Amis again in the future.
Another great stay!
This is the 3rd year in succession we have stayed at Chez Amis. Still lovely and peaceful with the sun coming around for late afternoon drinks outside when we return from the slopes, and/or cosy fire inside if the weather is cold (and generally at Spring we seem to get all weather!). No complaints at all..
Thank you so much for leaving a review Jon. Its always a pleasure to have your family stay at Chez Amis. And our neighbours always love having you nearby too. Hope to see you again at our Apt soon. Meanwhile, have a great Summer!
Chez Amis is set within the gorgeous cozy hamlet of Les Miaux. The apartment is an idyllic mountainside 'getaway' that sits overlooking the beautiful Giffre River Valley with stunning views of the mountains from the back garden or patio. Chez Amis is situated 1km from the village of Morillon in the Haute Savoie (French Alps). Morillon is part of the Grand Massif, Europe’s third largest ski area, with 265km of ski slopes, accessed from the ski lift, 10-15 mins walk or 5 mins drive (free parking opposite the ski lift) from Chez Amis.
Being so close to Geneva means Chez Amis is perfect for long weekends all year round. Morillon is conveniently located between Geneva and Chamonix (both less than an hour away).
In the Winter months (Dec-Apr) skiing and other winter activities are nearby including Toboggan rides, snow shoeing, dog sledding, winter paragliding and adaptive skiing are also widely available here along with lots of ski schools. The impressive Grand Massif rises to an altitude of 2500m and boasts 265km of pistes along with beginners areas, dedicated 'Kidz' zones and jam parks for snowboarders.
Morillon, which has many stunning tree lined runs, is linked by a series of lifts to 4 additional resorts: Samoens, Flaine, Six Fer A Cheval and Les Carroz, these 5 resorts combined make up the Grand Massif. The area offers great snow cover throughout the season (snow cannons for back up) with a variety of ski and snowboarding opportunities for all ages and levels.
From Morillon, you can purchase ski passes for the Massif (excluding Flaine) or the Grand Massif (all 5 resorts). There are some great offers available on ski passes throughout the year.
We have arranged for Chez Amis guests to receive a 15% discount on ski hire locally (ask us for details).
Summer is just as popular in the Valley its basically a huge playground for adults and families alike with endless adventures, activities and places to explore .....There's a host of activities (available Summer, late Spring, and Autumn too) ranging from challenging or gentle walks, hiking and mountain biking with 650km of marked trails and downhill tracks (and lifts to take you and you rbike back up the mountain again). The region is an incredibly popular area for mountain biking as well as road biking. It's home to some amazing road cycling routes, including one of the Tour de France stages.
Other Summer activities include swimming in Lac Bleu with its sandy beach, play areas and restaurant; walking along the river between two local lakes, 2 high rope adventure parks for 4 year olds upwards and some pretty technical routes high up for older kids and adults); there's tennis and volleyball, lots of white water rafting companies, cannyoning, parapenting is huge in this Valley, Via ferrata, fishing, fly fishing, horse riding, pony trekking and mini golf. There are some beautiful golf courses within an hour’s drive.
Alternatively, for a more relaxed time, it’s a 10-15 minute walk (via 3 different routes) to our local boulangerie 'Tiffanie' for fresh bread and croissants every morning and a small but wonderful village market for a variety of fresh local fruit, vegetables, cheeses, meats, homemade pastas (Friday mornings at the Verchaix roundabout).
You can also spend time unwinding and relaxing, soaking up the Savoyard charm of the area from the back lawn or patio with it's stunning views. There are tennis raquets and a badminton set for our guests to use during their stay and plenty of books, games, CD's and DVD's in our collections.
Take time to walk along the river, peruse the local shops and stop at the nearby medieval village of Samoens with it's botanical gardens. The Telegraph once wrote about Samoens ''Here a botanical garden, gothic church, medieval squares, timber-fronted patisseries and picture-box houses make it one of the prettiest of the Alpine resorts'. The area is culturally rich with beautiful Haute Savoie villages to visit and explore, wine tasting tours and chateaux visits.
Chez Amis is the perfect location for day trips to the beautiful towns of Annecy (best ice cream outside of Italy!), Geneva (the old part of town is gorgeous), Morzine (amazing mountain biking & an Alpine summer slide), Evian, Lac Leman, Chamomix, Les Gets, Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval.
We couldn't recommend this Valley highly enough if you are looking for a restorative and adventurous holiday. Its a gem that we return to year after year and discover new activities and places each time.
