About this property

Silver Fox Yurt - Where the Mountains Meet the Moon

The Space

The Silver Fox Yurt will be the hub for your recreation travel agenda - be it summer or winter! The yurt sits on 40 acres of private forest, immediately adjacent to IDL/state lands and USFS federal lands that are the jumping off point to central-Idaho's backcountry. Recently, we've kept an eye towards long-term health of the property and reduced risk of fire by removing most of the stressed white fir and thinning other areas of crowded timber.

WINTER ACCESS: In the winter, it's a 45min to 1 hr minute walk on snowshoes or skis - there is no passenger vehicle access.

SKIING: If you're skiing, you'll have the option of a short walk to north slopes draining into Jug Creek or a bit more of a jaunt up to the ridge of Jughandle Mountain for mild-to-moderate west-facing terrain. Other expert-only backcountry ski terrain faces north and east off the same ridge.

SNOWSHOEING: You'll have access to miles of logging roads and other backcountry travel terrain, ranging from mild to steep - all waiting at the bottom of the stairs of The Silver Fox Yurt.

SUMMER ACCESS: With an AWD vehicle with moderate clearance, you'll be able to park within yards of the yurt for easy load-in/load-out of gear, coolers and other personal items. Our cute little outhouse is located 50-60 yds away. Low-clearance vehicles will need to park approximately 1/3 mile away. Accommodations: Four single bunk beds are provided with thick, comfy REI pads. Please bring a sleeping bag and pillowcase. We also encourage guests to bring some drinking water with them; we provide water for dishes and the sunshower!

HIKING: Access to Payette National Forest and Idaho State lands are literally yards away from the yurt. Trails over to Boulder Lake and into the Rapid Creek, Buckhorn, Paddy Flat and Lake Fork Creek drainages are all within striking distance, depending on the route you'd like to plan.

MOUNTAIN BIKING: Ride from the yurt downhill to Jug Mountain Ranch's trail system in just a few minutes, or head uphill into Jug Meadows towards the Boulder and Louie Lake trail systems.

GOLFING: The Silver Fox Yurt is a perfect getaway for a civilized, back-woodsy combination of golf and seclusion. A quick 15-minute drive will put you right on the first fairway at Jug Mountain Ranch.

Other things to note · PRIVATE ACCESS, VEHICLE TRAVEL & PARKING The yurt sits just off a gravel/dirt private road, about 1.6 miles past a locked gate (start of green line). Under dry conditions the road to the yurt is completely suitable for SUV/AWDs and other vehicles with a modest amount of ground clearance. If we’ve had wet weather for a sustained period, the road can be a bit soft in places and ultimately not suitable for travel. In cases that the road is simply too muddy and safety can become a concern, it may prevent vehicle travel completely. If this is the case, we’ll be in touch with you ahead of your stay to allow for alternate plans to be made (hiking in with backpacks, credit for another trip or a full refund). Generally, if we’ve had a small amount of rain, vehicles can make it to within 1/3 mile of the yurt (“Mud Park” is visible on map which you'll receive upon booking your stay). oIf you have a very low-clearance vehicle, please leave it at “Mud Park” Otherwise, please park on large flat on main road below the yurt or take a right up to the flat above the yurt if you have a high-clearance vehicle. Please avoid using the flat space right next to the yurt for parking.

Unable to contact owner through website or get accurate directions. Spent over one hour trying to get access to locked gate then yurt was locked. We ended up leaving and driving home late yesterday.

Wonderful Mountain Getaway!
Spent an wonderful weekend with friends in this out of the way treasure. Jeff had a nice fire started for us when we arrived, and helped us up with our sleds the last leg with his snowmobile. I can't say enough about how great he was! Yurt was Cozy, clean and well set-up. Location is very secluded, we only saw 1 snomobile and some skiers from a great distance. A great place to get away from it all

The view is amazing!
Such a quiet and beautiful setting. We really enjoyed the deck! The only bummer was the beds, very hard, bring an extra pad.

Host profile image
Born in southern California and having grown up in Malibu, I've traipsed across much of the west, including Humboldt County (CA), Big Cottonwood Cyn (UT), Iliamna (AK) and coastal Oregon before setting roots for the last 20+ years in Boise.

I worked as a fisheries biologist, here in Idaho, before founding and managing the Treasure Valley's only community radio station, Radio Boise (tune in to 89.9 or 93.5 fm when you're in town!). I'm now working for a media start-up, as customer relations manager.

Deirdre makes profound impressions on young people, as a 5th grade teacher, in the mountain town of McCall - 2 hours north of Boise - and is the amazing mother of two girls, Olivia (14) and Catherine (12).

We love to spend time sharing our love and respect of the outdoors with our girls and feel SO blessed to be living amongst the incredible beauty of Idaho.

Why they chose this property

For a backcountry feel, close to town. Wildlife everywhere, yet 20 min from a great dinner in McCall.
