Overview

About the property

Lupin Cabin - Beautiful one-bedroom cabin just minutes from Yosemite Valley

Yosemite Hilltop Cabins are located within the gates of Yosemite National Park in the tiny community of Foresta. It is hard to believe that such a quiet and peaceful place like this exists just fifteen minutes from the sometimes bustling Yosemite Valley.

NOTE – This listing is for the Lupin Cabin. The listing and availability calendar for the Sage Cabin is also on VRBO/HomeAway under property number 815550. Both cabins are on the same property, have the same floor plan, and are furnished almost identically. We created a separate listing for the Sage Cabin in early February 2016 so reviews for both cabins are on this listing prior to that date.

The cabins are very private. Even though the Sage and Lupin Cabins are located next to each other they are oriented to maintain maximum privacy. Each cabin has 17-foot-tall wood beam ceilings with ceiling fans and lots of windows to take advantage of the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. When you are at the cabins you can see the top of El Capitan, Yosemite's world famous 3000 ft tall granite cliff.

Each cabin has a master bedroom with a comfy king-size bed and down comforter. They also have a full bath, full kitchen, and reading loft. Each cabin also has its own patio with a high quality Weber gas barbecue

When you arrive at your cabin there will be fresh linens on the bed and clean towels in the bathroom. There will be brand-name shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the bathroom. You will only need to bring food, clothes, and personal toiletry items.

Fantastic hiking and running trails with wildflowers, waterfalls, and wildlife can be accessed right from the cabins.

Each cabin has a TV/DVD player. The TV has no programming, DVD only. There is a small DVD library to pick from or you can bring your own movies.

The kitchen has all the cookware and dinnerware that you will need to prepare and serve meals. The kitchen also has a microwave oven, toaster, blender, coffee grinder, and coffee maker.

The cabins are heated in the winter by propane heaters that look like wood-burning stoves. Both cabins have air conditioning for your summer comfort.

Some cell phones work at the cabins. Verizon is the best. Each cabin has a land-line telephone for use during your stay.

There is satellite internet provided by HughesNet. There is a cap on the amount of bandwidth that is available. PLEASE DO NOT STREAM MOVIES OR WATCH VIDEOS AS IT WILL IMPACT GUESTS THAT ARRIVE AFTER YOU.

As of November 2014 there is no longer a hot tub at the cabins. It was a tough decision but keeping the hot tub clean and in working order finally became too much.

Current Yosemite road and weather conditions can be found by calling Yosemite National Park at 209-372-0200. Current road conditions in the State of California can be found by calling Caltrans at 800-427-7623.

Grocery Stores/Markets near cabins – Crane Flat Gas Station/Market (8 miles), Yosemite Village Market (13 miles), El Portal Market on Hwy 140 (14 miles).

This property couldn’t be better situated in Yosemite. The cabin is nice and private, but not isolated. We arrived on a long holiday weekend and managed to avoid the crowds by going to less populated, but equally breathtaking spots such as Hetch Hetchy & Cathedral Lake. We experienced no lines in or out of Yosemite the entire trip in part due to where this cabin is located. Instructions for check in & check out were clear & easy to follow. It’s a great place to wind down & enjoy the beauty of Yosemite.

Beautiful cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Yosemite Hilltop Cabins, Lupin Cabin. There are two cabins on the property, and the Lupin cabin is front. There was a family staying in the other cabin, but besides seeing their car in their designated spot, the cabin felt super secluded and peaceful. There's a few properties spread out in the area, so you've got some neighbors but we only ever saw a few people out.

The cabin is small and cozy, but with modern amenities as a full kitchen, propane bbq, bath/shower with hot water, double pane windows (quiet and cool), Wifi, and AC. After activity packed days in and around Yosemite, my wife and I wanted to retire to a comfortable place away from the crowds - so that ruled out outdoor camping, and that ruled out hotels in the valley. Staying outside the park meant longer drives and long lines at the entrances in the morning, so this spot being ~15 min from the valley floor was PERFECT. The interior is beautiful wood and tile, with a large and comfy couch, small dining table, cozy master bedroom (large bed), and there's a great loft for kids or just to climb up and be even more tucked away! Outside there's a small patio table and gas grill.

The drive up was on asphalt and dirt/gravel and on unlit and narrow roads, so it's a little slower of a drive (which was honestly pretty fun) - but our little honda civic hybrid did just fine in dry weather so no SUVs required for good weather. The owner provided a great map with directions, but I highly recommend saving an offline map of the area (entire Yosemite area) in google maps, on your phone. Cell service is spotty along the drives, but GPS works and was 99% accurate on our trip (they redid the entrance to Mariposa Grove).

The owner, Steve, was very helpful with our questions and maintains a great property. This was our first VRBO stay and we hope it'll still be here when we come back to Yosemite again, however many years that may take!

What a great location. Close to all great adventures in Yosemite.

  • 5 of 5

Great location close to everything. Cabin has all you need and after a day of exploring come back to relax and hope your spouse cooks while you make drinks.

Being an East Coaster or west coast of Florida the sun rises early at the Lupin like 5 am and Byblos's 7 your on the road. Great because you are way ahead of the crowds.

We loved it and once we vlear a few bucket list parks we will be back.
