Guestbook comments from the manager

This was our first trip to Beaver Lake and our first time renting a vacation home. We have really enjoyed our stay. Your home is lovely and we felt comfortable here right away. Enjoyed the cabin decor and the books. Also love the leather rocker. Hope to be back sometime when it is cool so we can spend more time on the porch. Thank you for making your home available. Hiccup and restored faith

  • 4 of 5

We started out with a small hiccup. We were a late night arrival, when we arrived, there was no power to the cabin, no power to the light pole outside, but lights were on at other homes near by. There was a storm earlier in the week that was the likely cause of the cabin's power issue. At 11:30 pm at night, I was wishing someone would have checked the cabin prior to our arrival. We were met with several apologies and the property manager searched and found us another place to stay for the night. She drove us to the new location and made sure we had all we needed for the night. I did appreciate her attentiveness at that hour of the night. The power was restored to the cabin the next morning by 9 am and our faith was restored, so we returned to the cabin to resume our vacation.

The cabin is very charming. It has some great character. Other than some coffee and cereal for the kids and sandwiches for lunch, we didn't cook for this trip, but the kitchen appeared well stocked for cooking. We had a group of 7 (2 adults, 3 teens, 2 littles) and were able to find plenty of linens and blankets for everyone. The kids were able to watch a bedtime movie on the TV.

There is a nice walk to the water, a little incline, but nothing like we had seen at other cabins. Our 3 year old was able to do the walk without assistance. There is a dock on the lake for the cabin. We took a couple of walks to the water. The scenery is beautiful. On Saturday we rented a pontoon for the day from Lost Bridge Marina. For lunch we were able to dock the boat at the dock by the cabin and walk to the cabin for lunch. It was great not to have to worry about any lunch supplies on the boat. We returned to the cabin around 6:30 pm and had a small fire in the fire pit so the kids could roast hotdogs and make smores.

Overall we had a very pleasant stay on the lake in Latham's Log Cabin and we would return here. The location is perfect off the main road but not too difficult to drive to and it has a nice location on the lake.

Our cell carrier is Verizon, the reception is spotty all through the mountains in this area while driving around. We didn't mind except when we were having power issues. However, coverage on the boat while on the lake was ok.

It's Nothing Special.

  • 2 of 5

My wife and I were excited about coming here over the 4th of July but we were quickly disappointed. As soon as we stepped out of the vehicle it looked like it hadn't been mowed for a while. So I got ahold of Beaver Rentals and let them know. This was on Monday. They didn't get there until late Thursday afternoon to mow and we checked out Friday morning. We got to enjoy being outside very little because of this. The yard is not very big like the photos make it look. There's no trespassing signs up. We thought we could let our dogs run but that didn't happen. The trash never got emptied from the previous occupants but unfortunately I didn't notice until Wednesday morning which is well past the 6 hours. Well some animals got into it and made a mess due to the trash over flowing. It is not a half mile of gravel. It's a mile and it's a very bumpy road so be aware of that. It took almost an hour to get to Eureka Springs so that 20 minutes they say is false. The sewage system is bad in the house. After we would flush you could smell a very foul odor. For what we paid to stay at this place it's was a very big disappointment.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave us this information. Unfortunately, our 2018 summer was a highly unusual one for rainfall and therefore foliage growth. The amount of rain we have had, has had us scrambling to try and keep up. The owners of this cabin do have lawn and garden services, but with the grass growing 3 to 6 inches every 4 days, all summer long, with the weeds and "wild grasses" growing at twice that rate, it has been a challenge for all of the lawn service companies. Being out, "away from it all" and definitely in the woods, it caught everyone by surprise; and the lawn service people just could not keep up in their normal manner. (Normally when we call them, they are able to respond within 24 hours, so you can imagine how backed up they must have been to take 3 days.) We are so sorry for the miscommunication on reporting the trash issue...we ask guests to let us know if anything is wrong with their accommodations within the first 6 hours so that we can respond as quickly as possible, BUT...we encourage everyone to feel free call us ANYTIME during their stay if there is any type of problem or have any questions...that is what we are here for. Almost every home in Garfield, especially at the lake, that is not in an organize neighborhood, are on septic systems. The owners had us immediately contact septic services/plumbers and had the issue resolved. As with ANY utility or appliance, it is impossible to predict their “breaking down” time….it simply happens in an instant. We strive to do our best to respond immediately and get everything back up to speed. This is definitely a cabin in the woods, and has no fencing to allow a dog to run free...that is difficult to find anywhere there are homes within even a few acres of each other. Unfortunately, previous guests have taken excessive liberty of neighbor’s property and therefore those neighbors put up no trespassing signs. I couldn’t find anywhere on our site where it said how long the gravel/dirt road was, NOR did we mention the distance to Eureka Springs, but I have added notes regarding both of those, so thank you again, for helping us insure there is no misunderstanding regarding either of those in the future. Again, without knowing about these issues, we have no way of fixing them, so please accept our sincere appreciation for you taking the time to let us know. Karen Gaither Beaver Lake Vacation Rentals

Tucked Away Cozy Waterfront

  • 5 of 5

This log cabin is great for a family of four, but if like us a family of five works well too. Main thing is it’s cleanliness and for that we give kudos. Everything was clean, even in the corners. Love the screened in back deck for morning coffee and evening lounging. Short walk down to the dock was nice. Dock is great, although we didn’t use it except to sit and read (still chilly during spring break week). Having a fire pit with chairs provided outside the cabin was great. Inside was cozy and well decorated for a cabin, but plenty big to move about. Nice driveway. Last mile In was gravel/dirt but well kept. Not a fan of the couch at all. It was clean, but very uncomfortable to sit on IMO. Don’t forget charcoal!

very peaceful place to stay.

  • 4 of 5

my only issue it was very steep climb back up from the lake. My dad isn't in good health and wasn't able to go down to the lake because of the climb back up.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and am sorry that the path to the lake was too steep for your Father to enjoy the water's edge. Unfortunately, what is "flat" to one person, is another person's "mountain" and it is always so difficult to try and give an accurate descriptions that is good for every person reading it. We do try to post as many pictures as possible, but again, there is always that possibility someone sees something different than the next person. With all of that said, this cabin has one of the FLATEST, most LEVEL walks to the lake of any home on Beaver Lake, so we probably could not have found a home that was going to let you Father walk to the lake. Again, I'm so glad the cabin was enjoyable for you all and thank you for reminding us that definitions are always up for interpretation.
