Pratt Mountain Getaway
From the initial booking, the host (Ken) ensured we were destined for a great trip. The communication was appreciated. We had every detail emailed, and texted to us. We knew exactly what lay ahead for us. The location itself was an adventure as the house was nestled on top of a mountain. Don't be surprised when you drive through some steep dirt roads, again, the host tells you up front that you need a good vehicle. Once we got to the house, it was just as advertised. It's a beautiful location, secluded, and surrounded by trees. The pond was a lot of fun and just a short hike from the house. We had a great time hanging out, going for hikes, mountain biking, chatting by the fire pit, and gazing at the stars. When we weren’t outside, we were having fun playing pool and darts. We occupied all three rooms, and if you’re going to as well, the room next to the bathroom has the best mattress. Oh, and something I didn’t pay attention to was that the rooms didn’t have curtains so if you need it to be dark to sleep take an eye mask. I used a t-shirt, and it was fine. Also, bring your own pillows. We got lucky with the weather, slept with windows open and didn’t get too hot. It also wasn’t cold enough to start the wood heater but was there if needed. The kitchen had everything we needed. The fridge kept everything cool. I could go on writing about this place but my advice is just check it out. Pay attention to the description, follow the host’s directions, ask questions if you have them!

"Camping" at it's best!
Everyone had a great time! We all had our own space and then great big kitchen to share with meal prep. The cabin has amazing views of the mountains from its wrap around porch but my favorite part of every day was looking up at the stars while enjoying the snap and crackle from the fire pit.

Paradise on Pratt Mountain
Off the grid is right... solar and hydro power with a large back up generator. Everything you would ever need for a fantastic Family vacation. Stocked full of games, darts, pool, and even chess. The pond is a short hike down the hill and a breathtaking spot to relax. Didn't catch a fish, but that isn't really the point for me... that's just a bonus. The ONLY thing I wish I would have brought, would have been a pillow I am comfortable with. We all have our sleeping habits that we get used to, and I prefer a harder pillow. Overall, we can't wait to go back next year! Thank you Ken and William for all of your hospitality, and to the entire Pratt Family for allowing us to take a glimpse into your Family history.

About the host

The property has been in the family for 8 generations and 9th is working on learning more every year. Started as a sawmill and cattle ranch for timber and meat for putting in the railroad in southwest Idaho. Later was used for working ranch with hay and cattle grazing. Over the last 150 years the type of trees has gone away from its natural habitat. Our mission is to improve the land for wildlife while restoring the type of trees and vegetation that once made it great in 1845. We are working hard on the 160 acres with active silviculture practices, fire prevention, erosion control, and water quality. We built the Hidden Pond in 1999 and the birds have come to call it home. If you love birds like we do it is great to watch. From a small finch to the bald eagle they all call the pond home.

Why they chose this property

I was lucky to be interested in forestry and have the time and energy to take on the property from my Aunt and Uncle. Growing up on the property over the last 56 years one gets to know every rock, tree, stream, pond and you begin to name the forest. If you walk slow and sit down to listen the forest will talk to you. It is one of the most enjoyable ways to re-charge your batteries from working any type of job.

What makes this property unique

Not being around any other people where one can truly get away from the hustle of life makes this hide out on pratt mountain so relaxing. Putting a nice home up on top of the mountain made even more fun. Nice to get a hot shower, have electricity, running water, and great time to sit down and dine with family. The next morning get up go for a hike up into the US Forest Service to the north for miles and see new areas and have a place to come back. On the walk, wildlife sometimes appears. We have every type of Northwest animals except a grizzly bear and that is fine with me.
