About Vicky and Zane Nicholson
Vicky and Zane Nicholson live in Alberta, Canada. It was during the very first family fishing trip to a remote lake in Manitoba in 2005 that Zane decided the family needed a place of their own in this magnificent part of the world. The search began and in 2007 the Rocky Lake home was purchased with other family members. Since that time, Vicky and Zane have become the sole owners of Rocky Lake #9 and have now decided to share their home away from home with you!
Vicky and Zane Nicholson purchased this House in 2007
Why Vicky and Zane Nicholson chose The Pas
Having some "shirt tail" relatives in the area tell of the unparalleled beauty of Rocky Lake led us to check out the area real estate. Opportunity and affordability combined and we made the decision to purchase "the lakehouse" in spite of the 12 hour drive from door to door, Alberta to Manitoba. A morning coffee out on "The Rock" on the edge of the lake is all it takes to remind us that the drive was well worth the time!
What makes this House unique
The huge wraparound deck and the amazing flat rock terrace on the lakeshore helped us overlook all the work that lay ahead. In the past 10 years there has always been a "project" as part of our vacations at the lake. We have chosen to leave the yard mostly "natural" to cut back on the outside yard work and to encourage wildlife to enter the yard. Fishing from the shoreline of your own property in May and June is a thrill that never gets old! Seeing foxes in the yard and otters on the dock still leads to a sense of wonder... the occasional bear in the yard, not so much! In our travels to and from the lake, moose, deer, and even caribou have been spotted. Wolves have been seen and heard and this is always a thrill! Eagles, osprey, herons, cormorants, all manner of waterfowl are sure to be seen and enjoyed. The mournful sound of a loon calling over the water after the sun is down is truly the iconic sound of the wilderness, and still lends a thrill each time it is heard. The shoreline is highly varied and uniquely beautiful. Sightseeing around the lake is something we continue to do even after all these years. Bring something along to take pictures...!

Damage and incidentals

Great location, was very nice to leave boats in the water and tied to the dock while we were on that lake. Had a couple windy days and with the well sheltered bay there was no concerns for the boats. House was well stocked and all that was needed was your personal items and food. Would definitely stay at this property again.
What a great place to enjoy the beauty of northern Manitoba. Rocky Lake is one of the gems of this province and Vicky and Zane's cabin is a great way to experience what this lake has to offer.
When we arrived we found the cabin to be clean and stocked with all that we would need to feel at home right away. The kitchen was stocked with everything we could ever need, the beds were all comfortable in rooms of ample size and the furniture was just what we would have wanted in a lake side cabin.
There were lots of bonuses to this property that we loved.
1. The large wrap around deck was a great place to relax and visit during the day.
2. The fire pit on the rock beside the lake was such a unique example of the shores of this lake and it was a place to enjoy our evenings.
3. The kids room was a huge hit with our kids that made them feel that they had their own private space to call their own.
4. The private dock was such a pleasure to have the ability to leave our boat safely tied up at night and quick access to the pleasures of the warm clean lake during the day.
There was plenty of room for our large group both inside and out of the cabin and we look forward to coming back again soon.
Vicky and Zane were great hosts and kept open communication with us in advance of our arrival to make traveling so far comfortable knowing that we would be well looked after once we were there.
Their cabin certainly did not disappoint and we love every minute of our time there.
Wonderful family rental
We were so happy with our stay at this property. Our 9 year old loved the loft area and the view from the main floor bedroom is beautiful. The huge deck and quiet bay make for a wonderful outdoor experience. We kept our seadoo right on the dock with no issues. The cabin is well equipped for families with tons of dishes, utensils, bedding, and towels. Also having a playpen and highchair available is a nice touch. We had been traveling for a week already when we arrived and being able to do a load of laundry was great. Thanks so much for having us! Hope to return soon!
A Fantasic week
This was our first trip to Rocky Lake - the property, location, and amenities were better than we had expected; we will be back next year! We've stayed at many private rentals, but this is the one of the rare places that make you feel like you're sharing a friends home, Vicky & Zane go out of their way to make certain you have what you need.
The "landing" on the shore was a great place for water front campfires each night and some of the best bass fishing we found was off the dock (caught 4 in 15 min).
Our group was focused on fishing, helpful tips the locals got us on Walleye, Bass, Whitefish and too many Pike to count. The lake itself is like no other lake we've been to - we expected Canadian Shield but it's far more picturesque - shores are limestone steps right into the water and shelves of stone that make it very unique. Thanks again, we already looking forward to the next trip.
So glad it worked out for you to share our "little piece of paradise". It warms my heart to hear you enjoyed the unique beauty of Rocky Lake as much as Vicky and I do. Come in August...the fishing is slower but the water is great for swimming!
Beautiful lake house!
The property was amazing, we really enjoyed our stay there. The private dock was a plus as we brought our own boat, the fishing in the lake was great, even for the middle of August. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it anyone who asked.
Thank you Karen. So glad you enjoyed your stay. Vicky and I have more projects planned for the house and yard so you will have some surprises when you return. I'm pleased that you found the fishing up to expectation. I hope we can host you again someday!

Rocky Lake is your playground! With few underwater hazards (shoals or reefs) it is one of the safest lakes in the area for boaters. With a few minutes instruction, and a good map (provided in the house) you can safely navigate your way around the 26,000 acres of beautiful, clean, water.
The shoreline is ever changing and strikingly scenic. Swimming and water sports can be pursued in a quiet, calm, uncrowded bay practically anywhere around the lake.
The fishing speaks for itself with many "Master Angler" calibre catches added annually to the Province's unique program.
