Not what I expected
I don’t usually write reviews. Opinions vary greatly. But I felt I needed to in order to offer a fair choice for someone else which I feel I did not get based on the pictures and prior 23 reviews. The home was fairly clean however dust was on bedside tables. There were mice traps available for mice if needed. We didn’t. A letter with the mouse traps explained the need for them. It explained that mice were common in the forest and can get the house and further explained to not leave food out. We kept all food in fridge. Linens seemed fairly clean but very old. I appreciate family heirlooms but I I wasn’t prepared to use someone else’s. Towels/cloths were old and worn as well. The furniture is very old. One recliner offered no back support when in recline position. Trails were not found that are mentioned in the online description. Maybe this is a reference to the trails at Elk Knob Park which is close to the rental. There were various roads gong into the property but these roads did not seem like a trail and I did not feel comfortable walking not knowing if it was part of the 58 acres given in the description of the property or if I was trespassing. The outside property near the cabin needs attention as well -overgrown. Luckily this was not a trip to rest and relax in the rental. We were busy with fall festivals and looking at the beautiful fall leaves and stayed very little in the cabin. We felt this rental could be a great place to stay with some work.

Secluded place with rustic feel
If you want a quiet place to rest and relax this is the place to go. Has a great rustic feel to it. Made me feel like no one and nothing was anywhere around. Went hiking on some of the trails and just enjoyed a relaxing vacation. For those who want the "night life", Boone is only 30 minutes away. Plenty of cookware available, grill with gas or charcoal. Just be sure to pick up supplies before you go in because it's 20 minutes to a dollar general. Huge deck to set out on and enjoy the view. Just be aware that you are in the country, got to hear bobcat and wolf. The old school workmanship on the house is amazing with love edge woodworking galore. Loved the cut down stumps used as end tables. It is pretty friendly as well. Hope to spend a week next time we stay

Great stay for us
The property was very clean and good sized. Nice large deck on back. It was quiet and serene; which we thoroughly enjoyed. There was a cabin nearby and behind and we were fortunate that no one was staying there or it could have disturbed our peaceful retreat. I would suggest a landline phone, if available, as even though we have Verizon (with latest cell phones), we RARELY had any kind of cell service so unable to use phone (or laptop 98% of time). We did not receive any specific checkout instructions so left the cabin using other instructions from previous cabins; in very good condition. Very isolated, with just us there. Overall it was an extremely nice quiet stay and I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the cabin. My "suggestions" are just that and not criticism. Thank you for the enjoyable stay.

Ultimate Solitude
58 acres, surrounded by 2300 acres of Elk Knob State Park. Perfect for us and our two Rhodesian Ridgebacks. The silence was awesome - so quiet that when we went down to Boone, the noise was shocking. Wish we'd booked 3 months instead of one.
