Our 1926 Spanish Colonial Revival home is located in the Historic Highlands District in the beautiful city of Pasadena. The Garden studio was added in 2002 and was remodeled in 2016.
The Garden Studio is situated centrally on our large lot. We have 2nd rental unit available but rented separately. Both units feel private and peaceful with private areas for both along with shared areas of the yard. The units are approx. 50 feet apart with our large permaculture garden between them.
Inside the open, airy studio you'll find a roomy chest of drawers for your clothing items, a small armoire with hangers, a sitting area, an amazingly comfortable queen bed decked out with ultra fine bed linens.
We recently added a beautiful kitchenette with granite counters, mini fridge, coffee maker, skillet, microwave, blender and all the necessary kitchen tools.
On the wall above the kitchenette is a smart TV. You can get Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and so on.
There is NO cable TV.
Also just added is a large bathroom modeled after the 1920's bathroom in our main house. Inside there's a stall shower tiled in gleaming white subway tiles. Water flows from a huge rainfall shower head. There's also an additional hand held shower head.
Two, plush, Turkish robes await you after your shower. Please make sure to leave the robes behind when you check out : )
There's a large porcelain sink, a stocked medicine cabinet, fresh, fluffy bath sheets & hand towels, a hair dryer, curling iron, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and other bathroom essentials.
The studio space is light and bright with East and South facing French doors.
One set opens onto a large, paved, shared patio area with two tables and a BBQ that is available for use.
The other set of doors opens to the rear yard where you will find your private patio area, our permaculture garden & chicken coop.
In your private patio area is a lovely and most comfortable day bed for lounging away the sunny Southern California days. Please note that It goes in the garage during the colder months (oct-April).
The garden is a labor of love and always a work in progress. You may find it totally empty or abundant with tomatoes, sweet peas, various lettuces and berries. You are free to pick some fresh fruits and veggies if you see them.
Our chickens are wonderful. They're quirky and so fun to watch. You're welcome to hang out by the coop and chat with them but please do not enter the coop or give them food other than organic fruit/veggie scraps. We only have hens (no roosters) but they do like to cackle. They're active from sun up to sun down and then silent. They're not necessarily noisy but there are some mornings when they're up at the crack of dawn cackling. More often than not I don't hear them in the mornings. But please be prepared for chicken noise of some kind. There are ear plugs available in the bathroom cabinet should you desire to silence them.
We have lovely views of the San Gabriel Mountains from our yard.
The yard is private, completely fenced/walled in and surrounded by large trees and shrubs.
We have an abundance of birds, butterflies and some local wildlife. There are raccoons, opossums, squirrels, skunks and other small critters. Please close all the doors to the studio if you are not in the back yard area. The animals are not shy and will happily pillage through the space looking for food and nesting materials.
The studio is a shoe free zone. Two pairs of slippers are provided for your use. The painted concrete floor can be very cold in the winter months yet refreshing come summer.
There is a wall AC/heat unit located behind the curtain over the bed. It works incredibly well for both heating and cooling. Please be aware that it is not very energy efficient. I realize that it gets very hot here in Southern California and by all means you should use it to keep comfortable. However, PLEASE turn unit off when you are not in the studio.
My 3 sons and I (and my partner when he's in town) live in the main house. The boys don't use the back yard much anymore but you may see them back there tending the chickens or working in the garden.
