Rocky start but a beautiful apartment
The apartment is nicely decorated, very comfortable, and well supplied in the kitchen. Because it's a corner apartment we have an incredible view not just from the balcony but along one side of the apartment. And that view is wonderful! The beach nearby is awesome, with over a dozen giant turtles coming to rest each night. And you can snorkel right from the beach. Although the reef does seem bleached, there is a very good number of exotic fish just there to be seen.
However, after flying all the way from Australia, a 10-hr overnight flight, and another one-hour flight to Kauai, picking up the car and driving to the resort, we found our apartment had not been cleaned. For a while, the answering service at Koloa Kai did not seem to work, and I thought we might have to book another last minute accom for the family. Thankfully, we did get through after about an hour, and a resourceful staff member hired another set of cleaners to clean the apartment. They did a good job, but we couldn't check in until 7pm. We were beyond exhausted. I negotiated a partial refund of the day's fee, and we were okay. But I think the problem is basically in the systems as no-one is available on sight to check that the cleaning has been done. And the phone systems are quirky, when you try to contact someone. Thankfully, we had a happy ending, a lovely stay. I do want to come back. But next time, I will be contacting them to make sure the apartment is being cleaned before we arrive. It's not something I really want to do.
