Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a very nice stay at Russel's house. My wife and I got married the weekend prior, and stayed here as a weekend mountain getaway prior to our full honeymoon in the fall. It was exactly what we needed. A rustic getaway in a quiet setting surrounded by wildnerness. While staying there, we took a long hike in nearby Linn Run State park and found a bunch of wild leaks, which we used to make Potato Leek soup in the fully equipped kitchen. It certainly made us want to have our own mountain getaway.

Great Location, Poor Conditions

  • 2 of 5

My boyfriend and I liked the area a lot, and the booking process was very easy. But, the cabin itself was filthy beyond belief. The bath mat and towel basket were covered in mouse/rat dropping’s and one morning we even found a dead rat in the bathroom. Granted it was tucked away in a corner, but looked like it had been there some time. At night you can hear things scurrying in the walls and the occasional rodent chirping. While I completely understand that some wildlife encounters are to be expected with mountain cabins, the pest situation had obviously not been addressed as all here...

However, our MOST alarming discovery was on our last day when we pulled all the sheets off the beds and found what looked like the leftover stains of a murder scene on the first floor mattress. Hopefully, it was just wine but a heads up would have been nice.

We had originally planned to stay an extra week at one of the owners other properties (praying the conditions were better), but after seeing the murder mattress we decided to go another route all together. The owner was irritated that we canceled last minute but when I explained why, he dropped the issue with no apology or acknowledgement of the conditions described. My overall consensus is that we spent a lot of money on falsely glorified camping, and would have been better off sleeping in our car.

Great time again

  • 5 of 5

Third time staying in this cabin and always a good time. First time was for a wedding, second was a family weekend getaway and this time a guys weekend. Each time everything was great with no complaints! Plenty of room for 5 guys to play cards, have a fire, and catch up. Can't wait to head back this winter for some skiing. Thanks Russell!

Awful, horrible horrible, it doesn't deserve even a half start

  • 1 of 5

This house needs to be remodelated completely, the rooms shades broken, no hygiene at all, very dirty and the water stink like animals, it's like the plumig is old, smell like old tubes, everything in the house should be remodelated. The Hot tub wasn't working, We felt treated. Very disappointed! I will never use HomeAway app! Bad experience! If you are looking for confortability, this is the worst house. This should be rented by hunters only !

Owner's Response: This rental started with the guests booking within 16 days of the rental dates. They messaged us the day before check in to get the cabin address. They realized rental home is in Jefferson Twp, Pennsylavania (the vrbo site does fully detail the address and maps the location as well) and they lived in New York, NY (a 5hour drive) so they wanted to cancel. Not sure how they were confused as we fully advertise where the cabin in located. We obviously could not re-rent with one nights notice and the rules of VRBO is that a 30 day cancellation notice is needed for a full refund. The customer must have decided, that rather than lose the money, to use the home. This was a bad start on their minds before the trip started, on their end. Now lets address the very unfair review: 1. This house has been fully remolded Nov, 2016. new: carpet, furniture, electronics. 2. Only 1 set of blinds in the sliding glass doors and only 2 panels missing. 3.They place was cleaned by staff and was inspected by me personally the day before and it was perfect. 4. All of the plumbing is new with a complete water filtration system. 5. The hot tub was malfunctioning due to huge storms that week and anyone can check. We were hit by lightning and the computer was fried. We have just bought a new computer for the tub spending over a $1000 and have receipts to prove. It is working perfectly now. We would have gave them a partial credit for that but never given the chance. 6.We are very proud of our home and the guests before and after gave great reviews. They even called us to thank us personally for using our home. This happens often at this place, and we have many homes, but we take great pride in those reviews. These guests never contacted us during the stay, except to notify us of the hot tub not working. We did apologize for that and informed them the parts would not be in till after their checkout. We would have issued a partial credit for the hot tub malfunction, if given the chance. But the guest charged back their credit card after staying, which is our first charge back ever. We will be fighting that charge back. This home is absolutely amazing. My wife and I have been renting that cabin for several years now and it seems everyone loves that home. I honestly believe that this guest is trying to find a way to get back at my family business since we didn't allow them a full money refund for a cancellation notice less then 24 hours. We take extreme pride in our homes.

Super quaint and very accommodating.

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had the pleasure of spending the weekend at Falling Timber. The property is tucked away in the Laurel Highlands but still close civilization so you get the best of it all. The property was very spacious clean and accommodating. It was fully stocked with everything we needed and was so convenient having a full kitchen and laundry.

Endless firewood and the hot tub were also a plus. I had a question about the hot tub so I reached out to the owners. Guess what? They actually responded. Almost immediately. There's nothing like having piece-of-mind when your on vacation. Customer service is hard to find in this day & age.

I would absolutely recommend this property and look forward staying again.

Thank You Reed's Cabin Rentals!!
