The Bear Creek Cabin was all that we expected. It

is designed and outfitted for a wonderful family

vacation. It was the cleanest and most tastefully

decorated cabin that we have ever vacationed in.

We spent hours on the lake and had a picnic on the

dam.

We also found the Fairfield amenities to be more

than we had hoped for. The pool and mini-golf

were voted favorites by our four year old.

I would recommend Bear Creek Cabin to anyone

that wants to enjoy comfortable, family fun.

Great fishing - plan and prepare (no internet)

  • 5 of 5

Sapphire Bear Cabin...5 stars!!!

There is a lot more space than you'd expect and the fishing is great...we caught 50+ fish mostly catch and release but enough keeper bass for 2 meals. No fishing license required on the lake.

Watching hummingbirds was peaceful and chipmunks were fun to watch, too.

The lake opens up after a tiny little paddle out. The lake is long and thin like a river and its long enough to get a good workout if you paddle the full length. It is quiet and peaceful and the fishing is very good!

Suggestions (our lessons learned):

1). if it is your first visit to Bear Cabin, avoid arriving after dark. If we had it to do again we would go to the grocery store BEFORE checking in, because it is tough to find in the dark.

2) if you want to catch bass, get an aerator bucket to keep them alive and buy minnows from Jocassee Outdoor Center on your way in (if coming from the south that is). That's the closest place that sells live minnows and if you fish with earthworms or mealworms you will probably only catch brim.

3) there is a windy path and stairs to the lake...that short walk could be a challenge for a person with even slight mobility issues but for the fit and agile it is a breeze.

One drawback was no internet so some work I needed to do didn't get done and we came home a day early as a result, but know it going in and simply unplugging is good for the soul!

Owner's Response: Bear Creek Cabin located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mts. is for those who wish to take a break from today's hectic life styles; unplug and reconnect with family and friends. For those who feel the need to be connected to the w.w.w. our Sapphire Valley Resort offers several comfortable locations to connect via WiFi. Also, I have found my Verizon cell service connections at the cabin to be good. First time guest may find it helpful to arrive before dark; by design our well maintained resort community attempts to preserve the natural beauty of the mountains by keeping the use of street lights, excessive land clearing, commercial signage etc. to a minimum. Well stocked Ingles market and adjacent stores are located on Hwy 64 approximately 7 miles from the cabin. A newly built Dollar General Store is located approximately 2.5 miles on Hwy. 64 for convenient last minute pickups. I appreciate comments from our guests and the opportunity to highlight Bear Creek Cabin , our resort amenities and our beautiful mountains.

Love Bear Creek Cabin--- 3 years in a row

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have rented Bear Creek Cottage for a month for the past three years. It is clean, well appointed and very comfortable. Great amenities through Holly Forrest Association. Like the convenient location as well. The owner Patty Wilson is not only delightful but most helpful. Patty, save our dates for next year. MK

Great place and owner

  • 5 of 5

All the reviews I read were accurate.

When we got to the house it was very clean.

The access to the lake, boats, fire pit, deck (especially) and humming birds were enjoyed by all.

The neighborhood is very quiet but only minutes to restaurants and stores.

I have rented from many VRBO owners over the years and this one was the most attentive and communicative. They obviously love this place and it shows.

I cannot say enough good things about our experience.

Great Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

Bear Creek Cabin was a perfect mountain vacation home for the entire family. The porch was the perfect spot in the afternoon, even when the storms rolled in we stayed dry. Bear Creek cabin was so close to the amenities at Fairfield Lake and the Sapphire Club and we used both settings every day. The highlight of the trip was when our 7 year old caught her first fish in Hogback lake. The canoe was the perfect fishing tool.

I highly recommend this home to anyone that is considering a vacation in the Cashiers/Sapphire area. It was a perfect location for hiking trails, waterfalls, restaurants and the grocery store. Patty is wonderful to work with and eager to help with whatever your needs are and the house has everything you need for a perfect lake vacation.

Great location !!!
