About this property

Traditional Wooden Cottage, 5 minute walk to the famous Saint Jean beaches.

Newly constructed, this traditional wooden cottage or "case" is located in a calm residential area on the hillside of St. Jean Village on the island of St. Barthélemy. The guesthouse was built to welcome family and friends and is perfect for couples looking for an authentic, charming, comfortable and affordable St. Barth experience.

The small village of Saint Jean is centrally located and just minutes to the most beautiful beaches of Saint Barthélemy by car, as well as supermarkets and pharmacies. On foot, down the hillside, guests can walk to the beaches of Saint Jean, Eden Rock Hotel and restaurants, Nikki Beach and the many boutiques of Saint Jean.

The wooden guesthouse was recently built by local craftsman in the typical St. Barth style, with an exposed wooden roof and wooden shingles, and the doors and windows were refurbished from a old traditional house that was recently demolished. The main structure is painted in white and earth tones and decorated with remnants of the family boating history.

The kitchenette and bathroom are on the main level off the central living room. There is a small table for breakfast and light meals, and a daybed which can be made into a double bed. A spiral staircase leads to a large comfortable bedroom with oversized queen bed (180cm), OR two single beds (90cm x 2), walk in closet and washing machine. The house will be comfortable for a maximum of three adults. Children are welcome (although we caution about a loft like opening and a spiral staircase) and we can loan a boogie board, mask, fins and games/toys to children under 11.

All house linens and beach towels are included. Linens and towels are normally changed once a week. There’s a private washing machine in the cottage for guest use. Additional personalized housekeeping services can be arranged in advance. If you have special needs or specific requests, just let us know.

The cottage is situated in a small tropical garden with partial views of the sea. We are currently in the process of replanting the private garden following hurricane Irma. Guests will find an outdoor table and sun shade as well as a sitting area.

This is a new property for rent but you are welcome to consult our other two properties on VRBO for reviews: La Petite Vigne, Amboise, France and Vinemesa Cabin, Beulah, Colorado.

We’re happy to answer any questions you might have about the cottage or the status of the island.

Cozy Cottage Near all the fun!
My husband and I visited Saint barths and stayed at Abigail’s cozy cottage! The cottage had everything you need and was just up the hill from the Eden rock and other amazing, fun places! We rented a car to explore the island & were happy to have a designed parking space. We loved everything about our stay and hope to be back soon! Best trip ever!

Excellent Cottage, Hosts, and Location!
This cottage, exactly as advertised, makes a perfect place for two or a cozy three to enjoy an affordable St. Barths vacation that prioritizes access to the outdoors, choosing any luxuries you like, and self-catering the rest of the time. The downstairs bed and the upstairs convertible are both comfortable, the kitchen is very well-organized and functional, the bathroom has excellent water pressure, and the WiFi is good. Most important for us was the central location, which made for easy car travel to all of the island's beaches and commercial centers, as well as the five-minute downhill walk to St. Jean. The hosts were responsive to our every request, answering us quickly despite the fact they were off-island during our stay there. We highly recommend this property and look forward to visiting it again in the not-too-distant future.

Plan to Come Back Next Year
The location was easy to get to, quiet, and very convenient to the grocery store, beaches, bakery and the airport. The villa was very roomy, clean, comfy and had everything we needed to feel at home. I enjoyed drinking my morning coffee outside with a daily visitor, a local turtle. This place is charming, cozy, and has everything you need to enjoy your stay. We will be back next year and hope to stay here again.

A Slice of Paradise
We had an outstanding stay at this beautiful cottage. Abigail and her husband were kind and gracious, and the communication was great. The location was terrific for moving about the island- it was exactly as described. We had two delicious meals at Le Piment and two at Kiki-é Mo. A spacious refrigerator and effective cooktop were just two features of the very functional kitchen.. We slept very well in the extremely comfortable bed! Finally, the shower had excellent water pressure. We feel quite fortunate to have found such a fantastic place for our first visit to Saint Barth. Thank you!

Host profile image
François has been an architect on the island for over 40 years. I am an architectural photographer and consultant in the hotel business, specializing in guest service. We have two other small properties that we have rented for years to vacation renters. You can see the five-star reviews of these properties on our profile.

Why they chose this property

We have 5 children between us, and extended family in Europe, Canada and the U.S. This house was built as extra family space. We enjoy renting out the guesthouse to quiet guests who want to experience an authentic Saint Barth when family and friends are not using it
We love St. Jean. We walk to the beach nearly each day. There is a bit of a hill coming back but an excellent work out. St. Jean is really the center of the island and close to everything including Eden Rock, Nikki Beach the boutiques, Saline....

What makes this property unique

This authentic wooden cottage was built by local craftsman in the St. Barth traditional style- just as homes have been built for hundreds of years on the island. The doors and windows were are refurbished from old traditional island homes that were demolished. The property is simple, and easy to live in and has a wonderful energy.
