Julie Doyle purchased this chalet in 2009
- Unique location in a very charming village, central yet quiet.
- three minutes from station, centre, skifacilities.
- modern and luxurious apartment with fantastic views.
We have tried to create a home from home, which we would like to share with others who are equally enthusiastic about the apartment and Wengen.
Wengen is a car free village and lies at an altitude of 1,274 metres above sea level. There is limited locak traffic. Wengen cannot be reached by car, and you leave your car behind in the valley resort of Lauterbrunnen (796m). From there you take the cog railway up to Wengen (travelling time approx 17 minutes). From Wengen station it is a 3 minute walk to our apartment. When you travel with a lot of Luggage, you can call a taxi (approx. CHF 18 one way).
Wengen lies in the Southern part of the Swiss Bernese highlands. The village lies in the heart of the Jungfrau-Aletsch region, an UNESCO world heritage protected site. Wengen is an ideal holiday destination in summer as well as winter. It is particularly loved by families, who return year after year.
In summer the Jungfrau region offers a lot of hiking trails (500+km), which vary from easy to very difficult, all against the background of the famous Eiger north wall, the Monch and the Jungfrau. There are lots of hiking opportunities which can be varied by replacing stretches of the hiking trails by a trip in of the cog railway trains. Special hiking train passes are available at the station. Wengen offers an open air swimming pool in July and August, as well as a number of tennis courts, a curling and ice rink and a minigolf court. There are also two playgrounds for the young visitors, one very near our Chalet. The neighbouring villages of Murren and Grindelwald are also worth a visit, as well as the nearby village of Interlaken, which is located between the Lake of Thun and the Lake of Brienz. Last but not least, the scenery in the Lauterbrunnen valley, renowned by its 72 waterfalls is breathtaking.
In winter there is a lot to be had for keen skiërs. The entire Jungfrau region (which includes the resorts of Wengen, Grindelwald and Murren) offers a total of 214 km of ski slopes; the ski area Kleine Scheidegg/Mannlichen offers 112 km. There is a good variation between blue, red and black runs. Additionally, there are many hiking opportunities also at high altitude, as well as toboganning trails. The curling and ice rink are obviously also open in winter.
Each year in mid January the famous Lauberhorn worldcup is held on the slopes from Wengen, starting at the Lauberhorn and finishing in Innerwengen.
