Stunning ancient Tuscan 'podere' (farmhouse) in the very heart of Tuscany conveniently located within 1 hour motoring of Florence, Siena, Sangimignano, Volterra, sandy beaches. The owner has devoted a great deal of attention to detail in the sensitive modernisation of this large structure to enhance the original beauty with an eye to the enjoyment of the residents. To this end features such as a huge fireplace and large open plan areas have been maintained to give the whole space a feeling of airy brightness conducive to a sensation of tranquillity, an ideal location to recharge ones energy away from the humdrum of daily life. A surprising achievement given that Radicondoli, the local municipality and ancient unspoilt medieval fortress is only 5 minutes away and Belforte the nearest medieval fortress only 10 minutes on foot! Radicondoli has no less than five restaurants open all year round. Food can be enjoyed in the setting of the truly breathtaking views, olive groves and vineyards.
Colletalli was an incredible experience for our family of ten when we stayed here in mid-May. It is honestly a little piece of paradise, created by the gracious
Luana and her husband.
The house itself is large, well equipped and with a great floor plan as it allowed for two very small children who were travelling with us to go to bed early in one quiet end of the house. While the character of an old Tuscan farmhouse has been carefully preserved, the house is equipped with everything you could need, including a washing machine (which was very handy for the baby laundry) and a dishwasher (a godsend as we were a large group and ate every night at the villa).
There are two outdoor spots to eat, both of which offer lovely views out over the hills. The pool was a bit cool in May but that did not stop us (including a three year old) from enjoying ourselves in it daily. The grounds are simple but spectacular, with roses climbing everywhere and lovely scented rosemary bushes along the pool side.
The house was clean, the beds comfortable, and we very much enjoyed the fireplace in the living room at night when it got cool and we moved inside to play games or read.
Luana and her husband live a few steps away and we had the pleasure of visits from their dog Uma and their three cats every day. Part way through our stay, Luana (and her very lovely helper Alexandra) cooked up a delectable Tuscan meal for us and served it to us outside. It was utterly fantastic and included delights such as homemade pasta with wild boar sauce and panne cotta with a strawberry coulis. A magical night for all of us to be eating such incredible food outdoors by candlelight.
The villa is nicely situated--you can drive up to Radicondoli for a coffee or meal, or can hike through the forest to another little village for coffee. Some members of our family visited Florence for a day (an easy drive) , and we all went to Siena for a half day in mid week. It is also just an hour's drive from the coast and nice beaches.
All in all, we loved our stay and all of us have had "withdrawal" since our return to Canada. We would love to return, and will certainly highly recommend Colletalli to friends and family.
Thank you dear Luana!!
It's really a dream property, with gracious and good-natured hosts. The house is rustic and charming while being well equipped and comfortable. The grounds are lovely with a spectacular variety of perennial flowers and plants (the most amazing rosemary bush I've seen in my life - larger than our car...) and classic Tuscany views of rolling hills and hilltop renaissance towns. (it was too cold to swim in the pool but a couple of degrees warmer and we would have) There are wonderful small towns not in the guidebooks within quick driving and in some cases hiking distance, while at the same time the property is within 45 minutes of Siena and other must see towns and cities. Luana and Christiano were available with great insider advice. Luana owns and operates a lovely little restaurant-bar in the the nearby town, and we took her up on a cooking lesson/demonstration which was one of the many highlights of our visit. I'd return to Colletalli on another trip to Tuscany anytime.
We were looking for a home base for our five week exploration of Tuscany. Colletalli was perfect. It was large enough to handle our multiple family groups that stayed with us, all four groups enjoyed the peace and quiet of the property especially after a long day sightseeing, additionally each group choose to spend a full day out of their week to just stay and enjoy the beauty and relaxing atmosphere of the farm house and property. Everyone commented on how comfortable they felt here.
We were blessed to see abundant wildlife - deer, boar, fox, sheep, partridge, and an amazing array of butterflies and moths. Just as special were the four cats that would grace us with their presence off and on . Best of all was Uma, our hosts very sweet and gentle dog - my 4 yr. old granddaughter misses her .
Luana and Christiano were perfect hosts, very friendly and quick to respond to any request or question we had.
I would highly recommend eating at Luana's restaurant in Radicondoli, she is an excellent chef.
The location was very good: Florence was 80 minutes, Sienna was 45 minutes, Pisa was 120 minutes, San Gimignano was 45 minutes, Chianti was 60 minutes, Montalcino was 90 minutes and Assisi was 2 1/2 hrs.
If you are looking for a place to stay that is comfortable (not fancy), where you will feel like you really are living as an Italian this is it. We would not hesitate to recommend Coletalli as your home in Tuscany. Many thanks to Luana and Christano, we miss you. Ciao
The property was a great standard, comfortable, well located and just perfect for what we wanted.
The service from the owner was excellent. I would recommend this villa and location to friends and relatives.
We were delighted and surprised by the beauty, the fascinating farmhouse, the landscaping and especially Luana and Cristiano. The catered dinner by Luana enjoyed outside overlooking the Tuscan hills was spectacular. We want to sell our homes and move into the villa under the Tuscan sun. The location was especially well situated for visiting wineries and the many medieval hill top towns. Next time I would stay at the villa a month! Thank you Luana and Cristiano for a wonderful week.
Still having Tucana withdrawals. This place will set you straight! A perfect tranquil house, lots of space if you have a group and easy access to great little towns, vineyards, hot springs, beaches, as well as easy access to Florence and Sienna. Luann's and Christian did an amazing job reclaiming an old farmhouse, they provide you with enough info and firewood to get you going, the rest is up to you! I highly recommend a stay, though I hope it stays a secret as I would hate for this place to be booked when I get a chance to go again. There are great places to eat in Radicondoli, (Agriteca, The Pergola) as well as easy access to markets and butchers in near by towns that have everything you need if you want to cook at the house. A charcoal grill and a pool overlooking rolling hills make it hard to ever leave!
Colletalli and Radicondoli exude the true essence of that part of Tuscany as yet unspoilt and not so well known. Their ancient origin so evident in their very structure, with every stone and brick revealing a sequence of caring and sage adaptation through centuries. Equally around you is the visual beauty of generations of good farmland husbanding. This age long labour apparently harnessed solely so that you may indulge in a culinary feast. Olive oil, wine home-made pasta and vegetables aplenty. You can work this out, if you wish, by walking, cycling or horse riding along the meandering tracks and lanes often flanked by the characteristic and poetic Cyprus trees, and always inviting you closer to nature. Away from the commercial trappings of mass tourism, you will be rewarded by sudden and pleasant encounters with a wealth of medieval fortresses, churches and small hamlets which are dotted around the gentle hills and meet people enjoying and willing to share their slow pace of life.
Other Activities: Hill walking, trekking, visit to geothermic power station and museum
