Welcome to Wisteria House!
Be a part of history in the (re-)making as you settle into this calming and VERY spacious room in our Victorian home in Indiana's historical resort town of Pendleton on the Falls (yes. that really is the town name). Just a 20-30 minute drive to downtown Indianapolis, see the INDY 500! 20 minutes to Muncie and 2 miles to Anderson. Come and hear a band at the newly updated Ruoff Mortgage Music Center or take stroll to some of the finest antique stores, restaurants, bar variety, and scenic walks that Indiana has to offer! You will see why Pendleton was voted the best small town in Indiana!
Stocked with amenities for the business travelers or small town explorers, this room was the first of several that our family is giving a second life after rescuing the gorgeous Victorian Wisteria House (ca. 1888) from demolition. Now, you can be one of the growing number of short-term guests who have taken us up on the offer to enjoy the artfully-appointed Wisteria House renovation, including our ever-expanding variety of gardens and antiques.
The Coastal Room is a large open space that occupies much of the back half of the house, upstairs. It is private, peaceful, and restful -- featuring locally hewn hardwood floors and a comfortable mix of antique to modern furnishings. The room is baseboard-heated and cooled by a window unit -- but it's so shaded and well-insulated, it's hardly needed.
As you can see in the pictures, the room includes...:
-- Antique cast-iron full-sized bed (mattress on the softer side)
-- Pub table that doubles as a private dining option or work space
-- Walk-in closet and TONS of shelving
-- Mission-style sofa (folds down into full-sized sofa bed)
-- Private bathroom with walk-in shower (at bottom of stairs off of back hallway)
-- All linens provided for up to four guests
-- Dedicated guest space in kitchen (shelves in cabinet + fridge), full use of dishes/cooking wares if you want to DIY some meals :)
-- Free wifi
-- Dedicated guest parking
-- Private entrance / back porch
After over two years of renovations, we are excited to welcome you to our home that we plan to eventually fully restore to its former status as one of the preeminent historical homes in Pendleton. Your stay contributes to this ongoing project, which is incremental (so that it won't disturb guests or neighbors!). We only ask that you're patient with us as we work on some areas of the home -- historical restorations can be slow-going. As with any renovation, it's possible that not everything in the common areas will be perfectly perfect. That said, the fully-renovated guest room IS perfect :) -- and so will be your stay at the Wisteria House.
Home access and amenities:
You will have access to the bedroom, of course, which has been fully restored. Also a dedicated bathroom with shower at the bottom of the loft stairs, as well as full use of all common areas in the house itself (i.e. the first floor, or everything you see in pics :)
You can walk to pretty much anywhere in Pendleton. Otherwise, driving...:
-- 12 miles directly North of I-70
-- 30 miles to downtown Indy
-- 40 miles/minutes to Indianapolis International airport (~$30-$40 Lyft/Uber to house)
-- 7 miles to Anderson, IN (10 miles to Anderson University)
-- 25 miles/minutes to Muncie, IN (Ball State)
We provide for guest parking in the driveway beside the house, or very safe (cobblestone!) street parking.
Access and location sights:
We are two blocks from Pendleton's main street, where there's a variety of restaurants/bars, an ice creamery, a coffee shop or two, and some really fun antique shops. If you like the outdoors and history, we have a little of both. The community pool is walkable from the house and a ton of family fun in the summertime. The falls at Fall Creek (also a short stroll) are gorgeous at any time of year. The surrounding park area has a number of walking/running trails. The park features several historical markers that describe interesting historical events throughout the town's founding and development.
We have three cats in the house who are very sociable, however they are strictly contained in the front part of the house so they will not disturb your privacy or sleep. Your stay will definitely be more comfortable if you're not allergic and ideally are used to a cat-friendly home. We also have a Jack Russell terrier named Humphrey who will very enthusiastically welcome you to the house :) He will not bother you during your stay at the Wisteria House, as he generally sticks close to the family.
